Marc Graves at Arthur Murray Walnut Creek
Hey, this is Marc Graves with Courtyard Realty, where my job is to be your guide, and we're over here at Arthur Murray. They're going to do some questioning for me, and I'm going to explain with their prompts, how much I love it here and how well of a job they do. They kill it, the groups are fun, the people are amazing, and the community spirit here is off the chart. I can't explain it, you have to feel it. It's just a fantastic situation. It's so well-orchestrated, and yet it's so like home. It’s great for my spirit, it’s great for my exercise, I get steps in, and it makes the Ygnacio Valley Community part of what it is. Thanks so much for letting me share that with you. Now, I'm going to go to Marissa and she's going to try to prompt me through this. So hey, Marissa.
Marissa: Tell me a little bit about how you first got started.

Marc: Okay, so, I've always wanted to take dance lessons. It was something that I was always trying to fit in, and I just never got around to it. A few years back, I just said, “If not now, when?” As soon as I made the decision, I looked up and saw Arthur Murray. It's a well-known name. It's been around forever. It's basically synonymous with dance school. What is it, like 148 years or something? I'm not sure, but it's a long time, and it's been here forever. So, I came in, let my spirit be guided by the vibe here. Everybody was super welcoming, super warm. It just felt right, so I signed up before I took a lesson.
Marissa: When did you realize that pursuing this was going to be great for you?
Marc: Immediately! So, after the first lesson, it was fun. I love to dance, and you don't have to be good to love it. I happened to have a lot of natural rhythms, but I’m not great with my footwork, as of yet, but they're patient with me. It felt terrific, the teachers are so patient. They don't make it seem like they are being patient with you. I think they're just used to it, and they're comfortable. It feels like they love what they do, and it feels like they care about the students here too, in an honest sort of way. I know I joke around a lot, but you could feel the connection. As I said, it's good for your spirit here. So, question number 3.
Marissa: What do you love most about your lesson?
Marc: What do I love most about them? The freedom. I can ask for whatever music I want to listen to, to get it going for me. I can do bachata, I can do salsa, tango, waltz. I found out that I liked doing them all, even though they're also different. The waltz is the one that surprised me the most. It's a lot of fun to do. A traditional sort of dance, and it's got a lot of flavor to it. I learned that here. Also, the parties that they have here. They're every Friday night. They’re during the week, sometimes. The other students are so cool. I had no idea. I made friends here, both male and female. I even recognize a few people from the street that were already here before I got here.
Marissa: What's the biggest change that you've seen in yourself since you started?
Marc: It takes me a long time to feel at home. Even though this place really felt like home, I know that I really feel a part of the community. I've done some of your bigger events where we've had gorgeous dinners. Every school in the Bay Area has been there, people dance so that they can elevate to the next plateau. If you're familiar with martial arts, it's like going from a white belt to yellow, to purple, to brown, to blue, to black. I forget what the names of them all are here. There’s gold, bronze, stuff like that, and you elevate to those. That was super cool to be a part of that. That was a lot of gosh darn fun. The last one I did was the one in Foster City. Yeah. That was a beautiful event. All that kind of excitement, like red carpet excitement that you get before the event before everybody went in, that was super cool to just experience. I've never been on the Hawaii trip, but I hear that's fun.
So, I’m Marc, and I'll see you at Arthur Murray. We’ll see you on the dance floor. You’ll walk in, and you'll dance out. It'll be marvelous, marvelous, marvelous.
