Mapping the Future of Career Education in K-12

Mapping the Future of Career Education in K-12

Only 45% of today’s students feel ready for their postsecondary education or career paths -- a statistic that even pre-dated the COVID-19 pandemic. To compound that, only 25% of students believe their schools are doing a good job of preparing them for job opportunities.

?This should tell us that we have a lot of work to do in order to prepare our young people for future success while they’re still in middle and high school.

?Career readiness learning opportunities are not uniform across the U.S., and school systems often have conflicting priorities, making access to these experiences sporadic. It’s clear that students lack equitable access to the information they need to make informed career and postsecondary plans, and this is potentially damaging their prospects of long-term success.

?There is a silver lining to this issue, though: an opportunity to transform the way youth learn about careers beyond the classroom, starting at the middle grades level.

?I hope you’ll join me and Michael Horn of Guild Education for a discussion on the future of career education at this year’s ASU+GSV conference. The chat will take place on Monday, April 4.

Looks like a great conversation! You should bring in the BUILD perspective, too. That do an awesome job helping students learn about careers and entrepreneurship.
