Many of us have no idea what it's like to not have a choice.
I am the father of two privileged teenage boys. They are far from the couch potatoes suggested in this video, with active lives and many daily choices. This is a long way from the daily challenges of life as a young girl in Cambodia.
There are girls in Cambodia who can’t choose if they eat that day, if they can go to school, or who they can marry. Too many girls are trafficked or exploited, trapped in a cycle of poverty.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
In two weeks, as a family we will cover 10 kms as part of AusCam’s goal to raise funds to directly impact the lives of 16 girls in Cambodia - to protect them from exploitation, and to empower them to lead change in their own communities. Support will educate these young women and prevent trafficking before it happens.
I consider it fundamental that we are involved in doing this activity together, as a family. Many people can contribute financially from the couch, but we want our boys to understand that making a real difference to real world problems needs people to promote issues and be part of change. It takes action and it takes people to actually do something! This activity of responsibility will also underline in their lives that #shematters.
On what did you spend your last $20? Your next $20 could help change a girl’s life in Cambodia by protecting her from trafficking and giving her a seat in a classroom.
