Many Senior Adults have erratic eating patterns

With all of the health messages available in society today, it sounds like eating for optimal health doesn’t just depend on what you’re eating but also when you eat.

As such, you may be wondering if there’s a best time to eat dinner, especially if you’re trying to lose weight or if you have any other health considerations.

Older adults often lose bone density and muscle mass when they concentrate on shedding weight. Don’t eat alone.

This unwanted bone and muscle loss can result in mobility issues and can even increase a person’s risk of injury.

Thank you?….For acid reflux?is a digestive condition in which stomach acid flows backward into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation.

Its most often caused by a weak lower esophageal sphincter and can be exacerbated by stress, certain foods, meal composition and timing, and other factors depending on the person.

People with GERD should eat their last meal of the day no fewer than 3 hours before laying down for bedtime?

?Elderly people should eat early dinner to stay healthy and fit. They can add light meals to dinner, like salads, roasted vegetables, fish, etc. If they get hungry between lunch and dinner, they can eat healthy snacks like oats, cookies, smoothies, yogurt, etc.

The diet industry and fad diets might lead you to believe that there is a precise time of the day to eat your meals that is best or “healthiest.”

But for most of us, the time of the day we eat our meals is determined by myriad factors, like our work schedules, our hunger levels, the medications we take, and even the times our family, friends, and co-workers are free to share a meal.

Do you want to add a word or two?

The fluid nature of day-to-day life means that sticking to exact mealtimes every day is challenging — and some days, it just might not be possible. Plus, the best mealtimes for you may change or evolve throughout your life.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that mealtimes don’t matter. In fact, research suggests that the time of the day we eat and the amount of time that elapses between meals may have profound effects on our health.

You’ll likely want to consider some individual factors as well, such as:

Health conditions.?Many medications must be timed with meals and may dictate when you need to eat. Conditions?like diabetes?also require eating at certain times of the day to maintain proper blood sugar levels.

Your daily routine.?We often time our meals around work schedules and personal obligations. That may mean eating earlier or later than you would ideally like to. In this case, maintaining consistency may still help limit disruptions to your circadian rhythm.

Type of meal.?On days when you have no choice but to eat later in the evening, choosing small, nutrient-dense, yet simple meals can aid digestion and limit circadian rhythm disruptions.

Your instincts.?Mealtimes will likely fluctuate from day to day. It’s important to trust your instincts and allow yourself to eat when you’re hungry, even if it’s at a different time of the day than you planned.

Your Comments …..

A good way to improve the health of an elderly person is to prepare a variety of delicious meals.

But how many meals a day should an elderly person eat??

Most elderly people should eat 3 well balanced meals a day.

This provides them with the energy they need to stay active, as well as the nutrients their bodies require.

Eating smaller, more frequent meals can lead to indigestion and other problems.

It’s also important to make sure that elderly people are drinking enough water and avoiding excessive snacking, as this can also lead to health problems.

A reason to eat earlier in the day?

Those who ate meals four hours later in the day were hungrier, burned calories at a slower rate and had body changes that promoted fat growth.

?Eating four hours later makes a significant difference for our hunger levels, the way we burn calories after we eat, and the way we store fat.

Avoid Sushi, and oysters.

When you as a senior consume foods derived from plants and eliminate animal products, you will begin to trigger a wave of rejuvenation throughout your body, one that’s visible on your midsection, your muscle tone, skin, hair, face, and much more. It’s also a reason to eat early for digestion, not forgetting when they are served. The great thing about eating plant-based foods is you can eat a lot without worrying about calories or gaining weight; this is true mainly when you focus on whole foods. This is what makes a Plant-based diet work: making a variety of meals that taste good to you so that you never get bored and always feel great about what you’re eating.
