Manufacturing in India & White-Labeling from China

Is Sangya Project the only pleasure product manufacturer in India? We’ve refrained from using that sentence before, thinking it couldn’t possibly be true or that it was too large a claim to make.

Let me first walk you through how we began.

Every single product sold on our website is first tested by my co-founders Tanisha RK , Aashish Mehrotra , and myself. Once we green light a product, it is distributed amongst our trusted testing group for added feedback.

When we ordered samples of the Strap-Ons from different manufacturers from China & Korea, we realised one thing. These were not made for Indian bodies. The harnesses were for smaller bodies, and the dildos were shaped and sized for people who had probably already used similar products before. They simply did not seem beginner-friendly. So we took a step back, we pictured what would make it feel right, and put ourselves straight to work.

There was a strong desire to solve this problem ourselves, & we needed to create something fresh with our customers and their very desi bodies in mind.

We finalised our idea for what an ideal harness needed to be. We sketched it, stitched it, wore it, changed it about, and stitched it again. We wanted to manufacture the whole strap-on product from scratch, so that’s exactly what we did.

We brought out the medical-grade silicone, made our own moulds, and finessed each piece by hand. Our customers and followers told us what colours they wanted to see, and we made it happen. We launched the Sangya S5. And when they sent us email after email asking for a bigger size? We launched the S6 and embossed our logo at the base with pride.

Then it just became an obsession. We wanted to make more products from scratch. Everything, if we could. As perfectly as we could. It became our love language.

When our customers wanted silicone plugs? We made our moulds, we got different colours of their choice and added crystals to it.

And after that? Well, we got ambitious. We started working with metal and brought them Omegas by Sangya Project. A butt plug made in India with a range of crystals picked out by us. We even went on to manufacture our own Lubricant, perfumes & crystal wands in India too!

Don’t you still whitelabel your products?

While manufacturing in India is a major part of our brand and strongly supports our belief that desi pleasure should be designed and strategised by desis themselves, we have also white-labelled products in the past. Manufacturers across the globe are accomplishing wonders in the pleasure sector and in all fairness, their factory capacities and legal leeway far surpasses the room we have for sexual innovation in India.

But bringing that innovation to India has to start somewhere. If craftsmen here are feeling unsupported in their ideas or want to do more with their machinery and skill, we have to pump our money into them so they can actually grow and explore their full potential and grow with us as we grow the sector.

And the more we innovated with people who were also desi, the more our plans grew.

Our vision completely shifted.

Our love language became stronger.

We wanted to go beyond the Indian-made strap-ons. There was more that needed to be done and we knew we could be the ones who did it.

We will be manufacturing more and more designs in India. The R&D phase takes time but we are here for the long run. We will make sure our products are designed & marketed with desi bodies, preferences and contexts in mind. We have since manufactured our own water-based lubricant in India— the Infinity. And when that went well, we manufactured metal and silicone butt plugs in India too and added rose quartz and black obsidian crystal wands to our catalogue.shop

Does this mean we will no longer be whitelabelling?

Absolutely not. Foreign manufacturers really are creating wonders and bringing great insight to the pleasure industry. We do want to continue making those products more accessible to desi consumers, and we want to make sure we generate revenue to keep pumping into our R&D and manufacturing requirements here.?

So, you’re taking on an entire country that has been manufacturing pleasure products for years?

Yes. Yes, we are.
