Manu Bhaker’s Historic Bronze at Paris Olympics 2024
Manu Bhaker, a 22-year-old shooter from Haryana, India, has made history as the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Bhaker secured a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event, marking a significant milestone for her career and Indian sports.
In a post-win interview, Bhaker mentioned that she reads the Bhagavad Gita and, like Lord Krishna advised Arjun to focus on karma and leave the outcome to destiny, she focused on the moment.
Bhaker's journey to success started young. She gained attention in 2018 by winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games at just 16. Later that year, she became the first Indian shooter to win a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games. She also won gold at the World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, and holds multiple national records in the 10m Air Pistol and 25m Pistol events. In 2019, she received the prestigious Arjuna Award for her shooting achievements.
Her recent triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics brought her back into the spotlight. She qualified for the final of the 10m air pistol event with a score of 577, finishing third in the qualification round, and her performance in the final earned her the bronze medal, making her the first Indian to win a medal at the 2024 Olympics.
Bhaker's achievements have not only brought her personal success but have also opened up new opportunities, including brand tie-ups, sponsorships, and endorsement deals. Her dedication and perseverance have paid off, making her a national pride and a role model for aspiring athletes. As Bhaker continues her career, she is expected to achieve even greater success and inspire more young athletes to follow in her footsteps.
