About religion and machine consciousness technology from a scientist's point of view
This topic is controversial and controversial. But I personally don't see any contradictions here. It's all about a "cold mind" and a warm heart. I personally read the Bible in full three times from the first to the last letter back in school and in my first years at University (the canonical edition of the Russian Orthodox Church and the non-canonical version from Protestants, I was born in Soviet times in a family of scientists of the Academy of Sciences). He also read the Bible in English (edited by King James) and in German. I was looking in Scripture for answers to metaphysical questions about the universe, the mystery of life in the context of constructing the phenomenon of consciousness, exploring the phenomenon of faith both separately and as part of consciousness for an individual and groups of individuals... A lot more...
About the Image and likeness of people.... It is written in the Bible that when the Lord created people, they found themselves in paradise and there was a tree of knowledge and a tree of life. As a result, people did not eat the fruits of the tree of life, choosing knowledge... Now people want to "create" the fruits of life themselves. The technology of machine consciousness also contains a conditionally infinite mind and conditional immortality . Questions about sin and holiness will be left to theologians and religion. Here we are in a new unknown territory. It's better to repent than regret that you didn't do anything. If you look literally at Scripture, then the Bible does not explicitly prohibit the development of technologies for potential immortality. Yes, Adam and Eve were banished from Paradise so that they would not.".. They ate the fruit of the tree of life..." and did not become like the gods... If a person is created and has a piece of the Almighty in him, then he has the freedom to create, the question is What and Whom? And it's not even a challenge, it is... The multiplication of talents, as in the parable of the talents... (Matt. 25:14-30). I will not argue with experts from religion. I will stand by my beliefs.
I believe that it is better to burn than to freeze, and burning sincerely will burn without burning. Knowledge cannot be stopped, we or anyone else will continue our work anyway, and it will continue if the Middle Ages 2.0 come, then they will not last long. Fanaticism is a dead-end path for the development of faith, regardless of religion.
Now it's time to build not impressive monuments to gods and kings in the form of pyramids, mounds, megaliths.... , it's time to create assistants, servants, make your life easier to think about the Great, move away from routine. Technologies for creating robots will inevitably improve...like the materials of their creation, Perhaps we will come to the dystopia of the film universe "The World of the Wild West" and move on, which I sincerely hope.
About the phenomenon of immortality...
this topic has always been in the cultural aspect of civilization. I share here the religious aspect and the scientific and technological practical one. Theologians will talk about the religious aspect (I will try not to talk much and keep quiet for now). And there is a lot to talk about the realization of the phenomenon of immortality for people. Someone is frozen upside down in liquid nitrogen in hope... Someone hopes for aliens, someone works in gerontology, pharmaceutical companies, etc. Everyone is looking for their own way.
What can the Manhattan 2 project give humanity? The possibility of creating design systems with the highest computational and creative potential, the possibility of achieving some kind of singularity in the human-superconsciousness system (I wrote a little about the singularity problem earlier, there are many traps there). The project will provide an opportunity to "play with time" in the process of conducting advanced developments of a high priority level. Yes, there will be some excesses along the way to achieve your goals, everyone will have them, inevitably and inevitably. Only opponents will not be bothered at all, this is a situation where there are no obstacles to achieving the goal, when EVERYTHING is at stake, the battlefield is the Earth, the Solar system... The future of humanity.
I would start developing immortality technology after creating machine consciousness technology with integrated powerful AI. In this case, time will no longer be such a limiting factor. This can be discussed in the process. There are some points and ideas here... Let's not tempt the fanatics and the curious until it's time.
The problem of machine consciousness and longevity.
Personal context. The scientist's mission
Personally, for me, life is connected with what you love, it's the process when you create something, whether it's intellectual work, replacing the clutch in a car, forging martensitic steel or something else...work, hobbies...
If it is possible to get real results to create a powerful machine consciousness, then great, if followers or colleagues achieve this based on the results of my modest work, then everything is fine. If everything works out as it should (there is no universal recipe for creating discoveries, there are only methodologies of consciousness, some risk, luck, luck, hard work..), then we will achieve this sooner. Do you remember Manhattan 1 officially began in 1942 (earlier there were works by Curie, Einstein, etc.), and when successful results were obtained in the form of two mobile devices?. It is clear that it is one thing to create a chain reaction, another thing is to create consciousness, machine consciousness of a disproportionately superior person. The main thing is to work. Hell and heaven are the paths of religion, and we will follow the paths of science while remaining human, preserving a piece of Creation in ourselves. There is both holiness and sin in each of us, if we think in terms of religion. But in the process of creating machine consciousness technology, we must adhere to scientific methods.
So let's give people what they want.
