Mangonificent Experience

Banginapalli.Sindhura..Ratnagiri...Neelam....Alphonsaaaa.....

When summer starts, one of the sweetest things we experience in India is the divine taste of mangoes, a much-loved symbol of national pride and identity.

India has about 1,500 varieties of mango, and it is among the finest in the world - Exceptionally sweet, rich, and smooth.?

We bargain a lot with street vendors, even if the price is reasonable. The irony is we do not question the price of items in supermarkets or malls, even if the price is extravagant, and feel proud of winning the battle with these street vendors.?

Last week was driving on a highway from Tamilnadu to Karnataka and found many mango shops on the way. We stopped at a place where there were 10 to 15 shops next to each other.

Of the 15 shops - I selected the 5th shop, which had more variety and was super clean. However, the street vendor looked annoyed and asked why he was disappointed. He mentioned one of the customers enquired about the price of fruits, and the street vendor said Rs.150/kg, and he bargained for Rs.140/kg but still went to the next street vendor as he was selling for Rs.130/kg.

I looked into his eyes and told him - I would pay him Rs.170/kg (Rs.20 extra and here is the deal. Among all the mangoes he had, pick and choose the exceptionally sweet and smooth mangoes for me. He mentioned the first time someone spoke to him like this to give the best (not cheap), and money is secondary.

With complete happiness and energy, he began choosing the mangoes based on shape, color, smell, and feeling with his fingers.?Finally, he cut a mango from that lot and gave it for tasting - it was the most delicious, mouth-watering mango I had ever. And finally, guess what? He gave those for Rs.150 and mentioned he had set a fair price for his mangoes and would stick to that rate for this and knows to offer lesser tastier ones for Rs.130

?Next time let's avoid winning battles against these people and instead ask for the best ones with street vendors. This way, they are happy to deliver the best, and we are delighted to consume the best, thereby making this world the best place for all of us to live in.?

Try this approach, and let me know in the comments about your experience.
