The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy – Mr. Samson Gwede Mantashe, has issued an amendment to the regulations for the display and submission of Energy Performance Certificates for buildings that total an area of more than 2000m2 or 1000m2 for governmental building space.
The amendment allows landlords up until 7 December 2025 to display their Energy Performance Certificates at the building’s main entrance as well as to submit them to the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI).
Landlords who do not comply, face the risk of a fine of up to R5 million, five years of imprisonment or both.
