Mandatory German Tax Assesment. Are you obligated to file?

In Germany, a mandatory #tax return is a form that individuals must fill out and submit to the tax authorities. It's a way for the government to determine how much income tax you owe or if you're eligible for any tax refunds.

Not everyone is required to file a tax return. Generally, if you are an employee and your income is only from your job, your employer will deduct the correct amount of taxes from your salary each month. In this case, you may not need to file a tax return because your taxes are already being taken care of.

However, there are certain situations where you are obligated to file a tax return. If you are self-employed, work as a freelancer, or have income from other sources like renting out property or investments, you will likely need to file a tax return. Basically, if you have income that doesn't have taxes deducted automatically, you'll need to file a tax return.
