Manchester : the heartbeat of British Music??

After enjoying a short break away in Manchester, as I made my way back south I could not help feeling how much I will miss being in a place that feels is so alluring, with such a vibrant, diverse music scene and true sense of community, creativity, and cultural influence.

After my father's recent funeral and my daughter relocating to Manchester following her graduation from medical school, I felt drawn to take a trip to the north, close to where my mother was born and where she trained as a nurse and midwife. As a musician that enjoys playing and listening to all kinds of music, Manchester is the place to be with live music in abundance. So many iconic bands and music artists have emerged from this community and have become some of the most influential bands in music history. As I walked around the city centre, I could feel the buzz from the live music that could be heard all around, with people stopping by to listen to impromptu performances.? It occurred to me that somewhere amongst the buzzing venues,? emerging artists/bands of the future could be there sowing the seeds, eager to be discovered and become part of Manchester’s music legacy.

My parents between them had a diverse collection of albums that included music from various genres and cultures and some of the earliest and most memorable that I listened to as a child were produced by music artists from Manchester and Liverpool. I believe that being introduced to a range of music genres at an early age certainly helped to further develop my musical ear and appreciation of different music styles.

Having a wealth of music venues and festivals including Parklife Manchester International Festival and Jazz Festival, it's no wonder Manchester attracts diverse audiences when it provides a wide offering of music and? inspiration to established and wannabe music artists, bands and songwriters.? Manchester is a renowned hub for emerging artists and bands, a number of whom have been born and raised within the locality and have formed bands after meeting at school or at music college in Manchester. These include the indie rock band Rosellas, whose members are all from Manchester and the alternative indie band Porij, whose members met at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and went on to form their band Porij. Its fair to say that whilst emerging bands in Manchester might be compared to some of the established iconic bands and music artists from this area, they will no doubt want to move away from this and bring something more in order to differentiate themselves and be known for their own style of music. Whatever happens the supportive community is key to the successful launch of new and upcoming talent.

Music education is well supported in Manchester and the variety of courses available from highly rated colleges and schools attracts students from near and far, intending on pursuing careers in creative fields.? As has been the case with Porij, education establishments like Royal Northern College of Music provide the perfect meeting place for talented individuals, that go on to form successful bands synonymous with Manchester talent.

Manchester’s contributions to the music world are a testament to its creative spirit, cultural significance and true sense of community. Manchester, the heartbeat of British Music, continues to produce some of the most iconic music artists and bands, who inspire others and? support rising new talent to become part of an ever-growing community.
