Manara School is matriculating its inaugural class of eighth grade students in the Fall of 2023. A co-educational residential school of 500 students, we expect our students to become the passionate leaders required to shape a more prosperous and equitable world. Manara will admit and generously support students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and all students will live in the dormitories next to the school campus.

Chief Accountant

Position Overview

The Chief Accountant?will report to the Director of Finance and will perform and oversee all financial transactions of the finance office.

Responsibilities:

• Ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial records, and ensuring all income and liabilities are accurately recorded, reconciled, and reviewed
• Delivery of the monthly close process, analyzing transactions, and preparing required journals
• Performing month-end closing activities such as account reconciliation, revenue recognition, expenses recording, etc.
• Being fully aware of and actively complying with policies and procedures relevant to his/her own responsibilities and to school policies and procedures
• Working with the internal & external auditors to provide the relevant documents ensuring that all queries are accurately advised
• Carrying out own internal audits to ensure the safeguarding of relevant policies & processes, and providing full written statements and appropriate business actions where necessary
• Ensuring the accuracy of the trial balance to reflect the real picture of the company’s financial position, and preparing monthly financial statements analysis
• Establishing adequate controls are built into the daily processes to have complete control in the custodial function of finance, whilst continuing to provide business support to all school departments

Other:

• Being visibly engaged within the school and local community as a champion of students and their growth as young adults
• Supporting the Finance Director with ad hoc project management and necessary reports to support the finance function and relevant business information including preliminary workings for the capital requirements for new school expansion
• Working with the IT department to ensure business continuity
• Acting as a business advisor and enabler for members of the team
• Any academic, supervisory, educational or other activities that are typically recognized (internationally, regionally or locally) as part of the job title or part of residential school activities and work as assigned by the Director of Finance or the Head of School

Qualifications and Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business
• 10-12 years of experience in finance/accounting fields (experience in the educational field is preferred)
• Good IFRS knowledge
• Good command of English and Arabic (written and verbal)?
• Good interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
• Adaptability and resilience in addition to a tolerant cross-cultural outlook
• Ability to take initiative, work independently, passionately and joyfully, while collaborating effectively with diverse constituencies
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills?
• Proven experience in early ERP implementation phases
• Strong literacy and ability to use various software and programs, including but not limited to MS Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, Veracross, etc.
