Managing roller shutters at home as a whole single entity

Hi guys,

In this article we saw how to close a roller shutter.

But how to control all the roller shutters you have at home at the same time, with just one click?

Let's get started.

Hardware configuration

1. Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5+. It's a Z-Wave gateway to build up and manage your Z-Wave network.
2. Aeotec Nano Shutter. It's a Z-Wave device that integrates with motors (garage doors, shutters, gates and so on) allowing you to control them wirelessly. You need one device installed for each roller shutter you have at home.

Software configuration

1. Home Assistant. I'm currently running version?2022.9.4.
2. Z-Wave JS integration?configured in Home Assistant. This integration allows you to control all the Z-Wave devices within your network via Home Assistant.
3. As soon as the?Aeotec Nano Shutter?is added to your Z-Wave network, it exposes the?cover.nano_shutter_v_xxx?entity you can control remotely.

Home Assistant code (yaml) / procedure

• Settings -> Devices & Services
• Helpers tab
• Click on this button:

• Select this option:

• Select the highlighted option:

• The following form goes up to be filled in:

• Assign the name (e.g.) Roller Shutters Home to the group and fill in all the cover.nano_shutter_v_xxx entities you want to control as a whole entity
• Confirm with Submit

Now the new entity cover.roller_shutters_home becomes available and you can add it to your Home Assistant dashboard in order to control all the roller shutters with just a single click:
