Managing Risk in the Big Easy - The Departure

So our time in The Big easy is nearly at an end. And just as I had mastered the temperature controls in the hotel room shower.

New Orleans is a city with a soul. And that soul sings. It has been the perfect setting to present to our US cousins on the current state of the UK HEI insurance and risk management and also to learn. And what learnings.

URMIA is a fantastic forum for sharing of information, elevating the function and topics around of insurance and risk management and supporting colleagues across a range of institutions.

What has been so refreshing is the commonality of frustrations – getting buy-in from senior management, the market shifts, availability of cover and elevating operational risks up an institution’s agenda.

URMIA is a home for discussions on these topics and the potential solutions.

You are reminded as you walk the streets of New Orleans that risk management has everyday applications. After the Conference finished I was able to find a tucked away bar serving local oysters and washed these down with creole sauce and local IPA beer. As I did the sign behind the bar the sign reminded me that there is a risk associated with consuming raw shellfish.

New Orleans and Risk Management - it is good for the soul……
