Managing Personal Brands vs. Companies on Social Media
Managing social media accounts isn’t for the faint-hearted. Every day comes with new challenges, whether you're handling a personal brand or representing a company. But there’s one trap many social media managers fall into: Comparison.
We look at what others are doing, and suddenly, we feel like we’re not doing enough. But here’s the truth—personal brands and companies are two different ball games, and comparing yourself to others is just setting yourself up for unnecessary stress.
When managing a personal brand, the connection is personal. It’s more relatable and more human. You’re telling stories, sharing experiences, and engaging with people on a one-on-one level. The audience feels like they’re in the same room with the person behind the brand. It’s easier to build that personal connection because there’s a face and a voice that people can relate to.
On the other hand, managing a company’s social media is different. You’re not just selling a product or a service; you’re managing the brand’s identity, reputation, and overall image. It’s more structured and often involves layers of approvals and strategy. There’s less room for freestyle, and the communication is often more formal.

Comparing how you manage a personal brand to how you manage a corporate account is like comparing apples to oranges. They’re both fruits, yes, but they taste, feel, and work differently. You need different strategies, different tones, and sometimes even different tools for each. And that's okay.
My fellow social media managers, let’s cut ourselves some slack. Managing anything—whether it's a person or a company—is not beans. It takes time, effort, and creativity. There’s no one-size-fits-all, so stop looking at what others are doing and focus on what’s working for your clients. Keep learning, keep experimenting, and don’t be afraid to adjust your approach. Every brand is different, and that’s the beauty of it.
So, the next time you feel the urge to compare your work with someone else’s, remember this: you're on your unique journey, handling your unique challenges. Do the work, trust the process, and keep pushing forward.

6 个月This was actually very helpful. We tend to just think too much sometimes that we’re not doing a great job because we keep comparing ourselves with others. Thanks a lot for this .
