Over 2 million individuals are affected by osteoporosis in Canada, a condition that increases the likelihood of fractures. These fractures often lead to a loss of independence, decreased quality of life, morbidity and mortality.

Guidelines for Management of Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention

Lora Giangregorio , PhD , Schlegel Research Chair in Mobility and Aging, was a key contributor to the Clinical practice guideline for management of osteoporosis and fracture prevention in Canada: 2023 update , published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

This guideline is an update of the 2010 Osteoporosis Canada clinical practice guideline on the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in Canada. It is intended to assist Canadian healthcare professionals in care delivery to optimize skeletal health and prevent fractures in persons 50 years and older.

Falls can happen for many reasons, including problems with vision, health conditions, or medications that make one dizzy or unstable. Giangregorio shares expertise on managing an osteoporosis diagnosis with exercise and a few tips on how to avoid falls and prevent fractures.
