Managing Enduring Resistance to Return-to-Office Policies

As Q2 approaches, leaders are still struggling to bridge the gap between employee preferences and corporate mandates.

As we approach the four-year anniversary of the great remote work experiment, companies are continuing to pull their people back to the office. But resistance to RTO policies have remained strong—among the 72% of companies globally that mandated a return, 42% reported higher quit rates than expected, and nearly a third reported a negative impact on recruiting.[1] Despite this resistance, many leaders insist that a return to the office is necessary, citing the difficulty of remote performance assessment and declines in productivity, collaboration, and connection. For many companies, a hybrid model seemed to offer the best of both worlds, but that model has also had its challenges.

How can leaders overcome resistance from skeptical employees? This month, we highlight three resources to help leaders design, implement, and optimize work models that make employees feel acknowledged and motivated.
