Managing Change, Is Managing Fear

Managing Change, Is Managing Fear

Change is often met with resistance. Even those who claim to embrace it often falter when confronted with its reality. But this aversion to change is natural; it's ingrained in our psyche. Just think about the struggle of breaking a habit or forming a new one—it's never easy. Our very wiring resists change. Yet, without it, we cannot grow, both personally and collectively. So, how do we navigate this inherent resistance??

Becoming 'Change Proactive'??

‘The one sure thing in life is that everything will change.’ So, rather than waiting for change to be thrust upon us, we should actively seek it out. Even if you're content with your current situation—a comfortable home, a fulfilling job, a satisfying routine— keeping an eye out for alternatives fosters adaptability, and why not open yourself up to better? Merely entertaining the idea of change proactively, keeps the mind flexible,? making changes smoother when they do arrive, and make no mistake, they will arrive!

Reacting to Change??

When change is forced upon us on the other hand, it leaves little room for clear decision-making. Under stress, decisions tend to be rushed and less considered. The mind, clouded in ‘fight or flight,’ will not be able to see things clearly. Another consideration is that by the time change forces its way into our lives, opportunities have often passed, leaving us scrambling to catch up.??

Dispelling Fear with Information??

Fear thrives in uncertainty. Take the fear of eviction, for instance—few things have the ability to invite more fear into our lives. However, the more information you are aware of, the less uncertain any situation or circumstance will seem.? Understanding the market, knowing alternative options, and being aware of costs alleviate the uncertainty. It's not about constantly searching for alternatives, but staying informed and open to possibilities. Stay curious and open to EVERYTHING! It’s a lot easier to move into action when you’re already in motion than it is from a complete standstill.?

Managing Fear, Not Change??

Fear clouds judgment, obscuring solutions, and opportunities. By managing fear, we gain clarity to tackle the logistical challenges of change. So in fact, when you manage the fear first, change will manage itself. When confidence replaces doubt, necessary steps appear obvious, timelines become clearer, and solutions reveal themselves. Now you are able to take the right action! Fear, as famously said in Dune, is the mind-killer. It blinds us to our capabilities and resources, and most importantly, to the truth of ourselves. That truth is, no matter the situation or circumstance, a solution is always available. The only issue is whether you are clear-headed enough to see it, or not.?

Embracing Change as Opportunity??

Change, because of its challenges, provides our best opportunities for growth and improvement. Whether through one-on-one coaching or team workshops, embracing change opens doors to new possibilities. My goal is to guide you through these transitions, helping you seize all of the opportunities that change brings, and take advantage of them.?
