Elon Musk’s Desire to “Think About the Future and Not Be Sad”

Who said billionaires don't have feelings? They are human, just like the rest of us. We think it's okay to bully super achievers like Elon Musk since he must be made of Teflon or something. But the truth is that all the hate really bothers him. He wants humanity to appreciate him as someone who is really trying to fix our greatest challenges, who is driven by a "moral purpose". For these leaders at the top of the pyramid, this is no longer only about the money of course - it's a race to see who will control our world. Who will hold that magic key that all of humanity will need. But the catch is that no single individual will have that much power in the new era. From now on the key to our good future will be deeply embedded in our togetherness.

So at first this new TED talk with Chris Anderson interviewing Elon Musk seemed to be about all the usual things - achieving our sustainable energy future, producing enough batteries to power all this futuristic stuff, and our electric grid being ready by 2050. "Things will be good" in Elon's own words. But things took a completely different turn right in the last couple of minutes when he finishes listing all the projects he's doing out of his 'love of humanity'.

Chris Anderson: What drives you to do every day what you do?

Elon Musk: I really want to make sure there is a good future for humanity, and that we're on a path to understanding the nature of the universe. The meaning of life. Why are we here? How do we get here? In order to understand the nature of the universe and all these fundamental questions we must expand and scale the scope of consciousness. I would say I'm motivated more by curiosity than anything. And a desire to think about the future and not be sad."

The answers Elon Musk and everyone are searching for are in the general system of nature. And whether we like it or not, we humans are a part of this chain of nature. This is where our development comes from. There are no secrets in the universe. There is no big secret hidden from us about life. Up until our time all the parts in the system developed in an external manner - religions, countries, institutions, etc. We've pretty much reached the limit of our external development.

Our development from this point forward will be about taking the control of our destiny into our own hands.

Now Is The Time

Now we've reached the time for a more qualitative kind of human development. Now we need to acquire a standard of living that will allow each human to reach their fullest potential, to be able to express themselves, to know themselves and the world, and to be happy and fulfilled.

This fiasco we've been in until now has reached its limits. Now we need to open up the borders. They're not in outer space - they're here between us. The fact that we see ourselves as separate from the general system has been clear for quite some time. Now we need to reawaken our consciousness to the fact that we are part of a system that has controlled us 100% until now. Our development from this point forward will be about taking the control of our destiny into our own hands.

This new type of human development we're launching is the first time this has ever happened in the world, so we have nowhere to take an example from. It can't be compared with anything we have knowledge or experience of. We now have to apply new methodology to enhancing what's between us; to optimizing our human relationships - that's where all the innovation and adrenaline will come from.

No Need to Be Sad - Take Action

Elon Musk is a man who believes that taking action is what will save us. Is what will make our world sustainable, etc. But the problem is that we're always taking the wrong action. We're in such a rush to solve each crisis that we don't stop to think why these crises are escalating. We're in such a rush to conquer new frontiers just to escape conquering the real frontier inside each of us. That's the most challenging and most gratifying thing we will ever do. The key as I've already said - is in doing this together. The days of a few exceptional individuals leading humanity in a certain direction are over. From now on our greatest accomplishment, and greatest model of leadership will come from our togetherness. Once we get started on this path, we'll be breaking through to a whole new realm for us to explore together.
