Being Cool, Calm & Collected

Maintaining the 3C’s in daily life is something most of us have to work on, so I adopted it as my motto in optimising my energies as it serves one best in any eventuality.

It was with this in mind that I decided to go on a retreat to Suryalilia in Spain, which enabled me to flex and stretch the muscles of the body and mind. The Healing Habits Retreat was conducted by Thalien Colenbrander, who is very talented in her unique way. I was also fortunate that this small group enabled each participant to express themselves as individuals. Initially, I was coy, as I was the only male in the group, but it became apparent that this would not benefit anyone. Thankfully going with the flow was the right choice, as we had much to learn from one another. While I felt prowess in conversation, I also knew that my limp attempts at practising Yoga would expose me as a novice. I have been practising meditation for many years, which has helped me immensely with clarity of mind and managing the 3Cs.

The week flew by as the group bonded quickly with an emotional farewell, and each of us cheerfully gave the positive feedback it deserved. I wondered what tangible benefit I might experience in support of this rejuvenating week, only to discover this in the final leg of my trip.
On the morning of my departure from Saville, it seemed proper to assign ample time to drive to the Airport, for I was relying on the Sat Nav to get me to the car rental company some distance from the Airport. The trip would have been just a doddle if it weren’t for missing an indicated turn which, unfortunately, caused distraction plus, another few wrong turns led me to lose the safe time travel I had in my plan. Even with numerous attempts to calibrate and recheck the car rental location using their postcode, it led me to a remote farmhouse with little sign of life other than a barking dog and an alarmed peacock. The what-if roll call in my brain in rescheduling flights, hotel, and car hire was daunting. With only minutes to spare, it seemed obvious I needed a guide in a hurry, and as I was still reasonably relaxed, I opted to use the phone taxi app, which miraculously worked. I am very sure that the blissful few days practising meditation and Yoga aided in my time of need.?

Just a few hours later, and in the absence of the RyanAir trumpet, my plane landed in Dublin as I celebrated a marked improvement in remaining calm and could surely blow my own trumpet on this occasion.
