Managing A Business While Traveling the World

Managing A Business While Traveling the World

Many entrepreneurs are mentally drained. You know you need a break, but if you do that break, what happens to your business? The travel bug already bit you; You want to visit Bali this Summer but what if you lose everything?

You have a lot to check off your bucket list but maybe you would do that after retirement. So what if the retirement never happens?

The perfect time never happens.

So, let me lay it out plain: Here’s what propelled my businesses in just three years. It’s surprisingly straightforward. I simply connect with those ahead in the game, tapping into the wisdom of those who've already scaled the heights I'm striving to reach.

So, if you're yearning to see the world without sacrificing your business goals, it’s time to rethink how you work.

This article is not trying to teach you how to become a digital nomad but how to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur & actually satisfy your wanderlust without sacrificing your career.

Hey, fellow adventurer,

I know the idea of the nomadic lifestyle calls to you—waking up to a beach sunrise or the noise of a city that's not your own. But let’s cut straight to the chase: It’s not all Instagram-worthy moments.

When I first started traveling, it felt like I was trying to scale mount Everest in flip-flops. Growing my service-based businesses while bouncing from one country to another was brutal. My lead flow was unpredictable. It was either a trickle or a flood, and never when you need it most.

Here's the harsh truth: the bottleneck was me.

I was the queen of multitasking, juggling content creation, client calls, and my finances. But let’s be real, multitasking is just a fancy word for spreading yourself too thin.

Embracing Systems That Work

I built systems—tried and true—that keep the leads coming and the operations smooth, no matter where in the world I am. Once you’ve got them perfectly aligned, all you need is a gentle nudge to see the magic happen.

Here's how it looks in action: My agency partnered with a client acquisition firm that really dialed in our operations. They meticulously set up our funnels to capture and nurture leads automatically, ensuring that my calendar was always booked with high-quality calls. We were not just getting more leads; they were making every interaction count, which consistently resulted in over 80% conversion rates. This is a replicable system that continually evolves, spearheaded by an R&D team dedicated to innovation and improvement. For me, it was like having my own secret crew who took care of one of the most important part of my job so that we can focus on providing services to our clients.

So, ask yourself what you need to provide a similar workflow in your own business? A steady source of income gives your mind room to relax & more wings to fly. This is the time to invest in yourself and your business.

You need to spend money in order to make money.

How to Make Traveling and Working Work for You

You’ve seen the photos, read the blogs, and maybe you’ve even felt a pang of jealousy—people lounging on tropical beaches with laptops, proclaiming they’ve mastered the art of living and working anywhere. Let’s cut through the noise: It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay. But if you're reading this, perhaps you're curious enough to consider that maybe, just maybe, it could be for you.

First Things First: Your Business Needs a No-Anchor Policy

Before you even think about booking a one-way ticket to Bali or setting up shop in a Parisian café, there's a fundamental truth you need to embrace: Your business needs to be "location independent". This isn’t about having a remote job or freelancing between trips; this is about transforming your entire operation into something that doesn’t just allow for mobility but thrives on it.

This means automating processes, digitizing services, and managing from afar. It might sound daunting, but with today’s tech, it’s more achievable than you think. Tools and platforms can handle everything from client acquisition through CRM systems to full-scale project management via platforms like Asana. The goal is just to make your presence optional but your business output spectacular.

Embrace the Unconventional: Go Beyond Just Being Online

Anyone can move their business online, but not everyone can make it thrive in a nomadic ecosystem. Here’s where you get creative: Think partnerships with other nomads, tapping into local talent pools for short-term gigs, or even setting up temporary pop-up operations in different cities to boost brand visibility and market reach.

Financial Grit:

The unglamorous part of this lifestyle is the financial unpredictability. Before you jet off, your bank account needs more than just a rainy-day fund; You don't want to be homeless in a strange country. Aim to have at least six months’ worth of expenses saved up, not just for living but also for unexpected business costs.

Money is your passport in more ways than one when you're are trying to live this way. I am an advocate for travelling to locations that are tourist/nomad friendly. You don't have to be a digital nomad. The whole reason for this article is to show you that you can always go on that vacation and check this out of your bucket list while still running a business.

Setting a routine is also crucial, even if it’s flexible. Decide on work hours that align with your most productive times and stick to them as much as possible. This not only helps in managing client expectations but also in carving out time for exploring and enjoying your travels.

Lastly, keep communication transparent with your clients and team. Regular updates, scheduled check-ins, and clear deliverables keep projects on track and clients reassured. Utilizing tools like project management software can help you stay organized and visible, even if you’re working from a different time zone.

By embracing these systems and strategies, you can ensure that your professional and personal lives not only coexist but complement each other, leading to a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle.

A beautiful read, it was! I love the relevance you gave to "money" ... The rainy day package isn't enough for the deal in questions. You just have to level up if you must get the type of life you want here.... I'm buying into the client acquisition companies. Do you know of a good one I can try out for a start? Okoye Chinelo

It sounds like you're grappling with the common dilemma many entrepreneurs face - balancing the need for a break with the fear of what might happen to the business. It's crucial to remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your business. Your well-being is the foundation of your success.
