Managing Bullies @ Work

As a child, I was timid and mostly quiet until my 6th standard, post which best phase of my life started and I got into the company of most notorious bunch of girls in class, it was fun and till date I am really thankful to those girls.College was not different and so was my hostel and post graduation life, I was confident and full of energy all the time.

However, my very first few days at work, my colleague were very difficult and some were real bullies, “you cannot survive if you do not listen to me or obey your seniors at work……these were first few dialogues I heard”.

This was really scary and confusing at same time, as an extrovert and with sensibly good sense of repartee, I thought I would be able to survive …understatement …always thought I will shine at my work place.

I would think in my mind ……” bahar mil you won’t even be able to utter any word mere samne”, but inside my heart I knew seniors se kaun panga lega??

Well that time I somehow managed and reached at some level of comfort, by finding my own way of dealing with these people.

Gradually I have gathered some sense to this drama and handle things rightfully by following these few things –

Length their strength

Every bully has his/her territory of strength, generally arising out from responsibilities given to them or group of people from whom they derive these unconditional powers.

Some things are allocated to them (might not be in their JD but they have considered it their most important business), avoid doing those things or getting in way of those things.

Initially avoid entering that zone ….it is simple; do not get cozy with those set of people whom he/she invariably loves or uses as a fort against their wrong doings.

Be bold about your own gold 

Every person has assets in terms of their core strengths, your own gold , some are gifted and others have developed these areas, focus on those qualities and be exceptionally confident about them. As much as you will be able to develop yourself you will be able shine among'st others. Your work will speak for yourself and these bullies will be threatened and themselves will stop interfering in your work.

Deaf Ear is a Healthy Gear

Most important point is act as if you did not hear especially when these bullies are bothering you and pulling your leg, at these times act most busy in your work and prove them that their talks are least important to you.

Blow it to Show It

At times when situation is out of hand and these bullies are trying to steal your wind away, you can give it back to them by asking them; not to interfere in your work and stop getting on to you at every little chance they get, as it is also important to tell them that you maintain your calm but when it is required you can fight back for your self-esteem, however keep that as your last resort.

At the end of the day , our purpose is to succeed among'st them rather than becoming one of them.
