Managing Anxiety In Sales

"Anxiety in recruitment is caused from having too many options and a lack of priorities!" An Alex Hormozi quote I remixed, tailored for the recruitment industry.

Thought I'd share some practical tips on how to manage anxiety in our industry (Sales/agency recruitment).

Also, a reminder to myself, because this is often how my day looks which sometimes causes me anxiety:

- 5 roles to work on, all exclusive

- send a bunch of resumes/floats

- 45 applications to read through and call the shortlisted ones

- Do some business development

- Manage current candidate/client interview processes

- Get back to urgent emails/leads

- Create content

When I'm not in a rush and running on the hamster wheel, I slow down and ask myself these questions:

- What's my WHY? Prioritise the tasks geared towards that.

- Which 1 or 2 tasks can I complete, if done, the other 6 don't matter at all?

- What's going to move the needle the most?

I then spend the morning (8am-12pm) for proactive uncomfortable things and the arvo for reactive things.

When I do the above, I notice my anxieties disappear.

Another quote I love (from Alex Hormozi also) - "General ambition gives you anxiety, specific ambition gives you direction!"

How The Right Content Creates Inbound Leads


Someone asked me, “Alex, why do you post content so often and is it working?”

A few reasons why, but here’s a big one:

A month ago a business leader from a global tech consultancy approached me. “Hey Alex, I been following your content, we need a Head Of Sales for our South Korea office, I want someone with that elite athlete mindset you talk about.”

I went on a headhunting journey in Seoul (I love headhunting by the way), found the ideal candidate and recently made the placement. That’s why I create content. Inbound!

Here are some things I focus on when creating content:

Value - What knowledge do I have have which my clients and candidates can benefit from? Share it!

Angry - What makes me angry? What don’t I like about our industry and how would I do it differently. Post it! It’s different and stands out.

Passion/WHY - I openly share what I am passionate about and what my WHY is. People resonate with it.

Authentic - Be you, be original and share content daily.
