Managers should think like Farmers.

Managers should think like Farmers.

Farmers provide healthy and wealthy life lessons, and they are identified as leading characters. We should learn their lessons and apply them in our urban lives. Although farmers aren’t often thought of as leaders they don’t necessarily lead a movement or take organizations to the next level of performance. However, what they produce throughout the seasons exhibits great principles we can learn from and apply in our daily urban lives.

Strengthen the corner post

When farmers are building a fence, it is important to have solid corner posts. The purpose of building fences is to provide high tension power so that the barbed wires stay taunt and useful. The farmer needs to ensure the foundation for the hole is deep, firmly compacted, and braced to support the wires extending from two directions.

This indicates that a manager should provide a firm foundation within the company, sensible when it comes to the emotional and mental strain of the employees, and the manager should approach communicating with relevant team members, stakeholders and networks related to the business. Managers are required to do the job consistently and continuously to maintain the business effectively. You can improve internal company communication through the following tools:

  • Regular Check-Ins?
  • Give Your Employees a Voice
  • Encourage Social Interactions in the Workplace
  • Improve Collaboration between Teams

?Plant well, harvest right

Numerous planning and strategy is required in farming than you realize. This involves organization and management of limited resources to realize the specified goals continuously. Farm planning involves selecting the most profitable course of action from among all possible alternatives.

This implies that managers should create concrete objectives?to emphasize strategic planning rather than taking a reactive approach to problems and business goals and time management for the right preparation to obtain the most accurate results from all resources involved. There are various ways to set your planning in motion.

  • Put the plan on paper
  • Carefully consider timeline and scope
  • Communicate with Stakeholders
  • Anticipate Problems

Picking rocks

There are several monotonous jobs which need to be done to prevent troubles later on. When it comes to farming, picking rocks is one of those responsibilities. The big rocks can lead to less soil to grow crops and small rocks create potential problems at harvest. Once a rock is going through the equipment, it can result in costly repairs and delays.

When managers are distributing dull and boring tasks it can become intolerable and demotivating, particularly jobs in which the tasks are repetitive. However, employees may find the work easy and simple; it is believed that boring work can give you an opportunity to spend their time doing something productive.

For example: A client used his boring job to work on writing novel he’s always desired to write. He is responsible for tracking his own progress and results and he found that he could get all the work done in less than an eight-hour day.

Get your hands dirty

Farmers are not afraid of a little dirt, the reason for that it is because as a farmer you cannot work on a farm without getting your hands dirty. From planting to harvesting, from barns to feed yards, and from cattle to chickens, farmers in general know the only way to help get things done is to get your hands dirty.

A leader who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty should be getting involved in conversations of others, and sharing their own opinions. It can also make quite an impact on employees and those around you by staying active and involved, and allowing others to see your creativity and innovation.

Store for a better and brighter day

Once the crops are finally harvested, the farmer has to choose between selling it right away and storing it. There are times where money may be needed sooner rather than later and usually the harvest season is not the best time to sell the supplies at a lower price. Furthermore, reserves are needed to help out during strong weather conditions which can destroy the crops.?

For these reasons, inventory management is important for businesses of any size, knowing when to restock inventory, what amounts to purchase, what price to pay and sell,?and at what?price can easily turn into a complex decisions. Small businesses occasionally keep track of stock manually and determine the reorder points and quantities?using spreadsheet formulas on excel.?
