It needs the balance of the both the world.
We can not say , he/she is a good leader but poor manager, vice versa.
A leader must not only give followers structure, organization, and control, but also show courage, purpose, commitment, accountability and a sense of values.
Management focus produces essential order, consistency, and predictability, then leadership produces change and adaptability—to new competitors, new products, new markets, new regulations, and new customers. Both sets of skills are necessary, and both must be in balance.
Every High-Performance Leader should have both strong management and strong leadership skills.
It is very easy to acquire the science part which is Management But tough to acquire art part which is leadership.
I have worked with many good managers and good leaders.Few of them are successful in corporate ladder because of their management skills, few have to leave for poor management skill and started own company due to their excellent leadership skill.
