Management Styles
By typing management styles on google you will receive stunning search results About 1,490,000,000 results (0.50 seconds). If this tells you something, you have tones of opinions, books, and articles talking about the subject. For me, it is related to your personality, and there is no right or wrong approach; it depends on the situation, and the people you are managing. For example, if you are an officer in the army, you cannot but show some power in your style. If you are managing people in a charity organization, it is the opposite. Things may not be on those extremes, but sometimes it is a bit confusing, should I be tough or smooth, this will be based on the situation at hand. Imagine you are asked to manage a crisis where you have to make tough decisions, say a rescue plan in a sinking boat, women and children first, no questions asked. I did use such examples just to clarify and shed the light on managing a situation or people, after all, it is all management. My message here is, there is no week, soft, or tough managers, there are bad managers who cannot act according to the situation at hand or the type of people they manage. To be a better manager, my advice is to be a conscious, thoughtful human being.
