Management Spotlight: Shelly Stumpf

Shelly began her career at The BAM Companies in 2017 as a Property Manager. Three promotions later, Shelly now assists our properties behind the scenes as the company’s Portfolio Systems Analyst. Shelly has been in the property management game since the late ’90s and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.

How long have you been in this field? What has your career trajectory looked like??

I started in property management back in 1999 as a weekend Leasing Consultant and have worked my way up the chain from Assistant to Property Manager then to District, to Regional, up to my current and best-fitting role ever.

What inspired you to pursue this field???

Growing up I always wanted to be either a teacher or an accountant. My first apartment job literally knocked on my door and it didn’t take long to know I had found my calling.

What’s the best advice you could give to someone who just started their career??

The key to success is simple: customer service is critical to building a community, but our fiduciary duty to the owner must always be our primary focus. From there, know your lease, comply with Fair Housing guidelines, and adhere to company policy. The only thing that distinguishes your community from every other is YOU!

What’s your favorite part about working for The BAM Companies??

The opportunities to learn, grow, and advance are limitless, but my BAMily is everything! Working with such amazing talent is a huge blessing outshined only by our adaptability and unity.?

What’s your favorite project you’ve completed during your time at The BAM Companies??

Being part of the early success of Oakdale Square Apartment and Townhomes will always hold special importance. Now, as my role has developed, the opportunity to support the BAMily through training initiatives, policies, and procedures, as well as just being a resource for our site teams is what it’s all about for me. I know this role has allowed me to be more effective and I feel I have had more impact for the good than in any other capacity.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned from your team members?

Everyone has value. Success requires teamwork, commitment, action, faith, and determination.?

What’s your favorite memory from your time so far at The BAM Companies??

The best has to be sharing the stage with our oldest son when we were recognized for our 5 years at the company.????

What do you like to do in your free time??

As a dog mom, I spend a lot of time spoiling Obi. Family time is huge. I love most everything outdoors — sunbathing with Obi, gardening, cookouts, beach time, slushies on the canal, etc.?

What would your perfect weekend look like??

My perfect weekend would be family time on a beach in Cozumel.

What’s the most recent movie you’ve seen? What would you rate it on a scale from 1-10??

Hit Man. It wasn’t exactly what I expected, but it had some funny twists and a happy, although abrupt, ending. I think Glen Powell did a great job in his role, and I give him a 10.?
