Management Goes To The Dogs
Ken Mitchell
LAND DETECTIVE AND ENLIGHTENED GENERALIST Real Estate Brokerage, Development and Consulting, while juggling a highly active transition to retirement and mentoring a few very special emerging leaders. It’s complicated.
I find lately that my best thinking occurs on my 30-45 minute first walk of the day with my dog, Joey. I often find myself thinking I should sit down at the computer and check email first, or make an early morning phone call, but Joey is an Australian Shepherd and comes from a breed used to having their way. My home office has to wait until we head outdoors to greet the day.
It is during this time that I organize my thoughts free from distraction. I often find that perplexing problems solve themselves in the quiet of an early morning dawn. Even better, I am in touch with things that matter the most; simplicity, peace of mind, companionship and gratitude for the small things in life. When I return to my desk to start the day, I am refreshed, energized and feeling an attitude of gratitude.
This brings up an important question. Should the IRS allow dog related expenses to be written off as a form of preventative medicine or therapy? My home office will always have a dog.

10 年For me it is feeding the livestock but it is the same idea. The guard dogs greet me, the ewes are talking, the routine begins. Afterwards if all is well and no lambs born and no mamas or babies needing extra attention it is blissfully quite. Then it is time to start the "other" work for the day with a clear head. Today? Building a presentation on ewe synchronization. I am ready.
