Management 3.0 – a new management concept that is transforming companies.

It doesn't matter if you are a manager, coordinator, Scrum Master, director or CEO, all you want is to be happy at work and have more results. So if you work with people, it's best to be on top of this new management trend that is changing the way companies are managed. You may already seen, how the new generations, called Y and Z, see the professional world and the desires of these new generations for freedom, purpose and meaning in what they do every day. These new generations will represent, by 2025, 75% of the workforce, and that if the current leadership does not reinvent itself, traditional companies will give way to startups, whose management model is lean, without bureaucracy and focused on development. of people. But after all, what is Management 3.0? To understand what Management 3.0 is and why it emerged, we will have to understand the evolution of management over the years and how it ended up arriving in version 3.0. ? Management 1.0: In this model, workers are just the executors who work in the command and control system. The model emerged because production lines were only concerned with being efficient at the beginning of the 20th century. It is the hierarchy model, where decisions about what to do and how are made at the top of the pyramid.

? Management 2.0: Little by little the factories improved to maintain even greater control and efficiency over production. New concepts such as Six Sigma, Balanced Scorecards and other control and continuous improvement models began to emerge that increased factory efficiency. Note that companies ended up adopting these practices that originated on production lines and many of them still use them to this day. But it is difficult to imagine that in a world that is constantly changing, a VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous, in literal translation) there are still models like these where “those who can command, obey those who have sense”. And that's when a new concept emerges that has come to change this way of thinking in traditional companies: Management 3.0. Management 3.0 is a management model, created by the Dutch Jürgen Appelo, where the priority is the way people behave and relate to each other instead of focusing on hierarchies and positions. In this way, we start to see companies as large networks of relationships between people. This is an innovative leadership movement, which defines management as the responsibility of a group of people and not just the Manager. Jürgen Appelo defends the idea that management is too important to be left in the hands of Managers.

The 6 visions of Management 3.0

1. Energize people: managers must be able to keep everyone motivated, active and creative. People are the most important part of companies.

2. Empowering Teams: it is necessary to give teams autonomy, empower and have the trust of managers so that they can self-organize.

3. Align Restrictions: no matter how engaged people are, if the focus is not unique, every action taken may be in vain. Aligning restrictions is important to guide and align the interests of everyone involved.

4. Develop Skills: in addition to self-organizing, the team must also be self-sufficient, that is, preparing and evolving people must be a priority.

5. Grow the Structure: growth must be conscious and focused on the quality of the collaborative environment.

6. Improve everything: make mistakes and learn from mistakes and always seek continuous improvement.

Organizations must be dynamic and learn from new market situations, and therefore, having a structure that allows rapid adaptation to changes is already a differentiator in any market. The Workshops I hold on Management 3.0 are all very educational and very fun. In them, we bring games and tools to be applied on a daily basis in order to improve the management and leadership of teams by managers. The Management 3.0 model itself is designed to simplify management and leadership, being light and dynamic, meeting the idea of being practical and without bureaucracy and theories that don't work in practice. It is no longer possible to continue adopting the same management models from the last century and expect results in this century. We need to value people more, understand how each person works, what their aspirations, desires and dreams are. Only in this way will companies continue to grow in the VUCA world, and you, the leader, are responsible for this transformation. Good luck on your journey!
