Management 3.0 - Improve Cards - The theater of life
Management 3.0 has a vast list of tools and in the last week I have tirelessly done a series of experiments. I lead a Tribe with 06 Squads and I still have my agility team where we were able to put many of the tools into practice. It was really a tireless week. And I can say with all certainty in the world, that the knowledge of Managemt 3.0 and the dynamics are excellent.
The results are more than significant. I cannot deny that, after this intense week, several people came to me to know a little more about team management and coaching. So, I can say, that I believe in the method, I believe in the tools, I apply the tools and every day I go deeper into the theme to become a Facilitator.
I would like to close this marathon by presenting my last experiment and that reminded me a little of my childhood where I took theater classes in Brazil. In drama classes, we learn improvisation techniques. The director defines a theme for you to interpret and in the middle of the scene, without prior notice, the director changes the theme, and you must interpret your new role and so I improved my creativity to get out of complex themes.
And it was not easy when you are 15 years old. Everything in the end was a joke, but it was essential to generate confidence in the team so that if one day there were any problems you would know how to get out of the situation. It reminded me that everything has a context, and the theater scenes have a context and if you forget a sentence, supporting in the context of the situation helped a lot.
Years later I started to apply some dynamics where I put different contexts in some situations and work and later, I saw in Management 3.0 a playful way applied in the context of teams. And I found it interesting, an experiential method applied to work to generate narratives and improvisation of teams.
I am talking specifically about the Improv Cards tool, which, for more references, I recommend visiting the page:
https://management30.com/online-improv-cards/
Improv Cards is part of Management 3.0 and its extensive list of tools. It consists of 52 cards and aims to improve the narrative and improvisation skills of individuals and the team. It also helps people to become better communicators and is a great tool to use during team meetings, such as team building meetings, project retrospectives, feedback, work alignment, etc.
My experience was in the application in one of my Squads that are excellent professionals, but highly introverted and with great communication difficulties. They were technically excellent, but any need for conversation created a lot of discomfort. If I asked to turn on the cameras, it was deadly silence.
The application was very smooth and as we were not in any time of Squad ceremonies, I suggested a small 01-hour meeting where it would not affect the team's deliverables. As we were close to refinement in the middle of Sprint, I approached this topic as a background to carry out the experiment.
APPLICATION:
As a facilitator, I opened the board of each member of the team to see the deliverables up to the middle of the Sprint. I asked each member not to respond directly to how their deliveries were doing and to choose a letter from the Management 3.0 website to help represent them. In the first two examples it was a little complicated, but then the others understood the dynamics and followed the rational. Obviously, there were very few words, some people even went a little out of context, but it was fun and creative. Some references were not understood due to the level of abstraction of some team members.
After we did the round with all the members, we complemented each other until we reached a consensus on how the team was doing with deliveries. And in a way the team thought that the figures that represented the team were the "celebrating team" and ironically the "cow" figure.
The reference of the cow is that everything is used, from milk to leather. More than involved in delivering the milk, they were committed to leather and strengthening a winning team. A strong symbology, however, very interesting. There were even some funny comments, about the cow eating the grass, but it was just to relax.
Some learnings and suggestions:
- Encourage the opinion of each participant, even if you feel reluctant at first and even if your observations are abstract, this is very important for the creative process.
- I also suggest distributing the times well, the experiment team has 16 members, and each had only 02 minutes to work on their observations.
- Letting the team choose the cards at the beginning of the dynamic helps them to work on their speech and pay attention to the others.
- Telling a story through the card helped to memorize deliveries and, in some ways, makes meetings lighter when you speak of a balloon symbolically speaking of “performing X functionality testing” for example.
- Some team members have difficulty communicating. Easily ask them to choose another letter that best expresses the context of their observations.
Finally, the dynamics generate a lightness in the team and something to remember that it is the memories that remain of the experience.
I thank the instructor Erick Masgo for sharing the knowledge of Management 3.0.
