With my purpose of making a difference every day in optimizing outcomes, I just keep on putting my heart and soul in whatever comes my way. Layoff was one of those things =)
?Again, with the same notion of giving it my 100% everyday, a few things required laser focus during the transition period -
Acceptance, Plan (resume, networking, job search), with Resilience, Patience, and Gratitude
?I couldn't make the attempt on all things separately every day. So, I developed a strategy for a few days per week to focus on all factors combined. I think developing strategy is the easy part, execution requires diligence, focus, and clarity. So, my execution was planned as such.
?I would handpick a few of my contacts/ex-colleagues who had offered to help, who were a joy to work with, who had earned my respect.
?I would request them for some time with a sense of gratitude that they had offered their help. I didn't expect anything but their time.
?I would start by asking them what they thought of my role and what was the differentiator in my service? What stood me apart from others? And what was missed in my service? Remember that people who offer genuine help see something in you that you don't see in yourself or recognize. It might not be a professional skill, but it is something very valuable that made a difference for them while they were working with you.
?I would do my homework based on their network for 1-2 introductions. This showed them that I respected their time, I was serious with my diligence, and I had clarity on my asks.
?My listening skill had to be the driver in these conversations.
?After the conversations, I would take these steps –
?1. Update my resume for what I would gather as my differentiators/strengths. An executive once told me that that I was always given a supportive role in our assignments but my intent of making him successful made him see me as a trusted partner. You might consider that as a minor reflection but think of the boost that it gives you and the weight it adds on your resume.
2. If they agreed to a couple of introductions, I would give them a few lines about me that they could simply insert in their outreach to their contacts.
3. If they shared any gaps about my service, I added them to my development plan. Yes, I keep a personal development plan with skills I need and want to learn and earn. Then I would look to cost-friendly options, LinkedIn learning, Coursera, White papers published by top-universities, LinkedIn events, PMI events, following my favorite leaders around the world for their articles, podcasts, Ted Talks etc. If you check my profile, you will see it firsthand.
4. All this required patience at every step. There was one goal - acting without thinking of the outcomes. Perhaps, it's my upbringing with Bhagavad-Gita where the emphasis is drawn on genuine actions more than anything.
?5. I had a thankful mindset even in filing rejections. Know that the rejections send you to the path destined for you, a path that you wouldn’t explore otherwise.

?Hope you see that all the factors that I wanted to focus on, are interwoven here. It’s like instead of looking at the puzzle pieces separately, I was focusing on the picture put together with those pieces. I didn’t have to count the bricks. I just needed to walk on that path that my intent and destiny was paving for me.

It doesn't matter what life brings your way-
Prepare your mind to accept it!
Give yourself time to overcome adversity!
Be kind to yourself when you feel ‘down’!
Count your blessings!
Help others!
Dedicate time for job-search! Living life should be the primary focus!!
Own your story, flaws and all!
?Remember that at the end of it all, you will be a better and stronger version of yourself.
Be positive, stay positive to create a ++ version of yourself and your life!
