The man in the mirror
MO4 - Setting New Offshore Standards
We enable offshore operators to make maximum use of the capability of their floating assets.
At MO4 we are keen on forecasting obviously. Looking ahead we see that there are many solutions and at least as many pitfalls we do not have the time to fall into. We hear and read a myriad of initiatives, improvements and laws that are supposed to contribute to the solution. Apart from focusing on the solutions, which we will discuss later in time, there should also be kept a keen eye on some of the pitfalls that come about with green-globing. Two key issues that we should be wary about include:
-?????????Green washing
-?????????Chickens and Eggs
GREEN WASHING
With the sense of urgency there arises a clear incentive to polish-up one’s image. ‘People want me to be green… so why not look green’. This is called greenwashing. Green-pretenders that feed the hunger of responsible citizens by presenting seemingly green produce that in fact… is as brownish as yesteryear. We need independent accreditation agencies across all sectors that provide undisputed green-ness points to products and services that actually contribute to reducing our footprint over the entire life cycle. Governments, please take action.
CHICKEN AND EGG
Big changes need big decisions. And big decisions are seldom made in isolation. Especially in the energy and transportation market there is a chain of cooperation. Building big seaweed-processing plants is delayed by the lack of seaweed, seaweed farming initiatives don’t find the required traction from investors because there is a lack of seaweed processing plants, to give an example. To overcome the 5-10-15 year delays that result from such phenomena there is a need for VISION. A vision that supersedes the periodicity of democracy. And governments should rid themselves of egocentric behavior resulting from the ever looming upcoming elections.
THE MAN IN THE MIRROR
We want to discuss with you, our clients, how we can benchmark emissions and learn from our past operations to improve our future operations. We want to hear your views on the balance between Safety, Profitability and Accountability for the future. Because without your input we cannot support your goals. We trust we have common goals and therefore invite you to open a discussion with MO4 on awareness, monitoring, forecasting and optimizing your entire marine operation.
SO PLEASE SHARE YOUR IDEAS IN THE COMMENTS TO THIS POST
