When we adopt a dog, age and beauty often condition us. Unfortunately, the aesthetic factor has a great influence on the choice and many people prefer, by chance, adopt a puppy. But what about all those poor dogs who were not chosen? Of all those dogs that have failed to earn someone's affection? Russell Clothier decided those animals that seemed abandoned to a sad fate, full of loneliness.
Thus was born Shep's Place Senior Dog Sanctuary, a refuge for all those older dogs who, after being abandoned, have not found a home or a family to adopt them. Russell therefore thought it was a good idea to create a place where only animals could live comfortable old days, surrounded by so much love. The name of the sanctuary was born in honor of Shep, a 10-year-old dog, a mix between a Beagle and a Basset Hound, which was adopted by the project's founder. Shep is a very happy dog because he has his own couch and can have a good time with other dogs.
Russell created a very "informal" hideaway because he wanted his guests to feel at home. He bought a house specially adapted to these needs. The man had been volunteering for some time while designing the project and it was during these experiments that he realized that older dogs are rarely adopted.
The house has, among other things, comfortable cages and a special shower for dogs, as well as a large patio that allows dogs to frolic freely.
A nice initiative to which you can contribute by donating on the official website of the foundation.
Dr. Russell Clothier, President and General Manager, has a PhD in quantum physics, which, it turns out, has surprisingly little to do with running an animal shelter. He has been teaching Physics at the college and high school level for 28 years. Raised a cat person, he is a recent convert to the dog world, and is trying to make up for lost time by starting Shep's Place.
