Mammoth 2022 New Year's Resolutions

Mammoth 2022 New Year's Resolutions

According to a 2019 study by the fitness app Strava, January 19th is "Quitter's Day" - the day most of us abandon the naive optimism of the new year, discard our ambitious resolutions, and get back to the drudgery of business as usual in the grey, bleak mid-January malaise.

But today is January 20th, the sun is shining again in an unusually mild January here in southern England, and we’ve all (hopefully!) made it through Quitter’s Day unscathed, with all of our resolutions intact!

2022 is shaping up to be a brighter year, and we all deserve it!

But what about all those failed resolutions?

For businesses as well as individuals, new year’s resolutions can be a catalyst for positive change, encouraging a process of reflection. Where do we want to be by the end of this year, and what do we need to do to get there? Harnessing the sense of optimism at the start of a new year can infuse this process with greater creativity, ambition, and purpose.

Failed resolutions, however, can have an extremely negative impact on our mindset, performance, and wellbeing.

It is therefore important to keep our resolutions SMART – without a Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-limited objective, we might be setting ourselves up to join the miserable ranks of Quitter’s Day failure!

With this in mind, we have decided to share a selection of our collective and individual resolutions for 2022, so that our Mammoth Monthly readers can hold us accountable!

So, without further ado, here are our Mammoth New Year's Resolutions for 2022:

1. Work with a sports team.

We have been lucky enough to work with some exceptionally exciting clients, including an iconic supercar brand, a bleeding-edge cybersecurity startup, and an international bestselling author!

But as a group of diehard sports fans, one thing missing from our current client portfolio is a sports team.

Bat & Chat Chelmsford represents our first foray into this area this month, and we hope to build on this experience to develop a stronger presence in the sports industry in 2022.

Sports teams – make Mammoth your next big-money signing!

?

2. Launch our website.

Yes, we may have promised our website launch last summer…

But after a couple of aborted launch attempts, 2022 will be the year that Mammoth Creative Ltd finally gets a website!

Stay tuned for more… (this time, we won’t keep you waiting all year!)

?

3. Develop our brand identity and refine our business values and purpose.

While designing virtual team building games for Greenhat People, including a series of gamified solutions for corporate Culture and Values launches, we have seen the major advantage enjoyed by businesses with strong values and a shared purpose.

As a branding agency, it is easy to neglect your own brand development as you spend so much time thinking about everyone else’s!

This year we will be working on a mission statement, a values agenda, and our brand identity. And we’ll share the results on our new website.

?

4. Expand our collective skillset.

As the variety of our work broadens and our team grows, it is vital that we continue to expand our individual and collective skillsets.

This year, we have signed up to a Mini MBA in Marketing, a series of courses on illustration and animation, and a range of new software programmes.

2022 is the year to learn and grow!

5. Meet up more as a team.

With restrictions lifting, we are ready to get out and connect more.

To make this goal SMART, we’re aiming to hold 4 Mammoth company days in 2022.

Here’s to sharing more brainstorming sessions, competitions, and celebratory pints in the pub!

And our individual resolutions? Warning - they may not be quite so SMART …

James:

1. Reach 1350 on chess.com.

My wife is a chess master and former Madrid youth champion. She is also merciless. So, as you might imagine, I am yet to win a game of chess in our house …

Reaching 1350 on chess.com represents progress, from beginner to intermediate. No more “fool’s mate”.

My research has already begun, and was published in an article for the toys and games website Wizrd. Read it here.

2. Begin a new writing project.

After submitting the final manuscript for my book, The Bohemian Republic, in 2020, my feelings towards starting another full-length writing project were a bit like Steve Redgrave after winning his fourth Olympic Gold – Redgrave famously vowed: “If anyone sees me go near a boat ever again, you've got my permission to shoot me.”

But Redgrave went on to win a fifth …

So 2022 is the year I get back in the boat. Genre unspecified.

3. Paddle a stretch of the 47-mile River Stour.

Speaking of boats, I aim to complete at least 10 miles of the River Stour in my new canoe…

Stewart:

1. Expand cooking repertoire to include Japanese dishes and Spanish tapas.

Expanding my cooking skills is on the agenda for 2022! The focus will be on learning some Japanese dishes like Ramen noodles and some Spanish tapas – I have some recipes saved from my time living in Malaga in the 1990s.

2. Win Mammoth Sports Personality of the Year.

The Mammoth awards ceremony at the Christmas Party has become a favourite and fiercely competitive date in our calendar.

My aim is to take home Mammoth Sports Personality of the Year, which would represent the ultimate testament to a successful year of sporting achievements. These will include completing a full round of 18 on a golf course, starting a Mammoth 5-a-side football team, and being consistent at the gym.

?

3. Attend at least 6 live music concerts.

After only 1 gig in 2021, restrictions permitting, I'll be seeking many more in 2022, starting with Andy Bell at 3 Wise Monkeys at the end of January!

?

Chris:

1. Read 12 new books.

My life in 2021 became too consumed by digital media, and I want to invest more time “offline”, away from phones, computers, and TV.

Books will provide a sanctuary from screens, and I’m aiming to read one a month.

?

2. Try Bouldering and Ninja Warrior.

Bouldering and Ninja Warrior are two high octane extreme sports becoming more and more popular.

This year my aim is simply to give them a go – I’ll save the world records for 2023!

?

3. Incorporate meditation into my daily routine (and delete Just Eat!).

2022 will be a more mindful and healthy year. I am going to incorporate meditation into my daily routine, as well as eating healthier foods and cutting back on takeaways. Deleting Just Eat is a big first step!

That's all folks. Here's to a healthier, happier, and brighter 2022 for everyone!

And no quitting!
