MAMA YOU NEED A POSTPARTUM BATHROOM BASKET

MAMA YOU NEED A POSTPARTUM BATHROOM BASKET

Creating a postpartum bathroom box is a thoughtful and practical idea to help during postpartum recovery. Mama you DO NOT want to be digging around under your bathroom counter for essential items. An easy way to navigate the days after birth is with a postpartum bathroom box. This is something that will live on your counter (this is no time to be bashful) and aid you in healing. If you’re near the end of your pregnancy and don’t have the energy to gather all of these items, then enlist some help! I’m sure someone in your support circle would gladly put everything together for you.

ITEMS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR POSTPARTUM BATHROOM BOX:

Bathroom Basket:

It’s a good idea to choose a wire or plastic basket so it won’t get ruined from any water on the counter.

Perineal Spray:

Perineal spray or foam to soothe and cleanse the area. This is really helpful in the early days postpartum.

Witch Hazel Pads or Wipes:

Witch hazel pads or wipes to reduce swelling and discomfort. You can also use these to cleanse as well as help with relief.

Maxi Pads or Maternity Pads:

Look for pads specifically designed for postpartum use, as they are more absorbent and comfortable.

Disposable Underwear:

Postpartum-specific disposable underwear that provides good coverage and comfort. note: later on when spotting period underwear would be a great choice.

Stool Softeners or Laxatives:

These can be helpful, especially if as a new mama is experiencing constipation after childbirth or if you’re worried about that first postpartum bowel movement! It can be scary,

Nursing Pads:

Include nursing pads to prevent leaks, these can be really helpful in the early days. I prefer the reusable nursing pads as I found I didn’t use a lot of the disposable.

Nipple Cream:

For breastfeeding mamas, nipple cream can help soothe and protect sore nipples. I also found it great for my lips! I’m not kidding, it’s super hydrating and after birth my lips were SO dry!

Perineal Ice Packs or Gel Packs:

These can provide relief and reduce swelling in the perineal area. Use the ones you can snap to make cold, in a moment when you don’t feel up to walking to the freezer these are a great option.

Water Bottle with a Straw:

Staying hydrated is essential, and a water bottle with a straw can be more convenient during breastfeeding and recovering postpartum. I honestly felt having water everywhere was key!

The goal of the postpartum bathroom box is to provide comfort and self-care items that can help a new mama relax and recover during this special but challenging time. Customize the box based on your individual preferences and needs. I would also include your toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, deodorant and a few towels, items you use daily. Being within arms reach will make it easier for you take moments of self care. Start making your own bathroom box.
