Malwarebytes Case Study

Malwarebytes Case Study

Working with large IT companies is always challenging and exciting for us, as it is always a chance to show your best and enhance our expertise.

This time, we are glad to share with you our localization experience for Malwarebytes. This company develops software protection solutions for both business and personal use. It was a story of step-by-step involvement in the process, which resulted in the translation of Malwarebytes documentation and promotion in seven languages!

What Did We Do for Malwarebytes?

Initially, the task implied a rather modest translation of a presentation focused on the benefits of the company’s software. As we did it flawlessly (and yes, we did brag! ), the scope of work for Malwarebytes expanded considerably.

Finally, our team was to localize user guides, technical descriptions, and presentations aimed at presenting the capabilities of the company’s program. Technical translation for seven languages with appropriate proofreading appeared to be a challenging task, but we successfully accomplished it!

The Challenges We Faced When Localizing

The specific area to which the project belongs becomes the key problem for us. Technical documents were intended for professionals and experienced users, so there was tons of industry-specific terminology. From the very beginning, thorough explanations of terms and principles were an urgent need.

We realized that we needed to learn more about the protection software because it is required to provide accurate and high-quality translation for all the programs.?

Translation of texts and instructions required knowledge of data transmission systems, server operations, antivirus programs, email clients, etc. Though we had translators experienced enough in software localization, programs protecting against malware turned out to be more complicated to understand.

At last, the client insisted on the systematic arrangement of all the terms and concepts in his texts. It was quite natural, as terminological consistency is always critical when it comes to localizing any technical project.

Fortunately, Malwarebytes offered to rely on their Style Guide, adapted for each target language. It was a lifesaver, as we figured out all the requirements and selected appropriate TM tools.

This is How BiLingoPlus Team Managed It

After a little brainstorming, we made up a plan based on the solution, which helped us walk through the process as smoothly as possible. Here's a list of them:

  • Communication with the client: Our software-experienced translators were always in touch through the Crowdin platform, asking questions and receiving comprehensive explanations.
  • Creating a glossary: We made a list of terms based on Sketch Engine and sent it to Malwarebytes managers for approval and extension. When its final version was ready, we translated the terms in all the target languages and sent them back again. The operation was repeated until an unconditional assertion.
  • Keeping track of the progress: Our technical translation manager maintained consistent control of compliance of the localization with all the recommendations of the Style Guide. Finally, the result met all the recommendations flawlessly.

Of course, we stayed faithful to our favorite CAT tools, which helped us keep up with the deadlines without sacrificing quality.

To be honest, localization for Malwarebytes made our team sweat! However, reasonable technical solutions, talented and persistent translators, and the client's commitment allowed us to produce flawless results, which greatly contributed to the company's promotion and development in global markets.

Now, we hope that we will come across another fantastic project of this kind!
