Maxwell Maltz (1889-1975) was a successful plastic surgeon with a medical practice based in New York City. After practicing for many years he found that there was often great improvement in a person's appearance after plastic surgery but in as many cases as not no improvement in attitude. In fact many of his patients felt worse about their lives after plastic surgery in spite of appearance improvements. This sad reality led Maltz to begin counseling his patients pre-surgery about attitude and self image. As a result of many years of counseling his patients he wrote and published the book Psycho-Cybernetics: A New Way to Get More Out of Life in 1960. The premise of the book is that people must have a properly positive view of themselves in order to have a better life. Otherwise people stick to self-limiting beliefs about themselves and their own abilities and have difficulty in making breakthroughs in life.
Maltz' writing about self-image and attitude have helped many people from all walks of life, live a better life.
