???This year, Cxmmunity Media is taking its local Kickback event national.?
The nonprofit is taking its flagship Atlanta event – which is a gaming and esports-focused event geared towards high school and college students designed to help them find career opportunities – and taking it across the country. The 2024 Kickback Tour is set to hit both Washington D.C. and Atlanta, as well as a city out West that has not yet been announced.

2. Summerhill ‘Stadium Hotel’ conversion moves forward

????Atlanta Housing (AH) leaders recently voted to move forward with the purchase and redevelopment of Summerhill’s tallest building, a 16-story former Ramada Plaza Hotel, and turn it into 231 affordable apartments for seniors.
HUD is expected to approve the purchase application within 30 days, Alan Ferguson, AH’s chief housing and real estate officer, said before the vote. AH would subsequently issue a request for proposals from private developers in September. The authority’s board could select a development team in January, and the project will be underway “hopefully in advance of the FIFA [World Cup] activities.”
3. The Mall West End to become mixed-use development with affordable housing?
?? The City of Atlanta and Atlanta Urban Development Corporation have announced three new projects to bring affordable housing and redevelopment to West End.
The Mall West End redevelopment is part of a trio of projects designed to bring more affordable housing to the city.
The Mall West End will be the largest of the redevelopments, transforming the 12-acre landmark into a 1.7 million square feet mixed-use development with retail, residential, and community spaces.?The city and BRP Companies are?planning approximately 120,000 square feet of retail – including a grocery store, fitness center, restaurants, and local boutiques – along with 893 mixed-income rental units, 152 beds of student housing, a 150-key hotel, 12,000 square feet of medical office space, and extensive community amenities such as a public green space.
