Malaysia's Top Glove Suspends Selangor Operations in Compliance with the Enhanced Lockdown

Recently, Reuters report that Top Glove, the world's largest rubber glove factory, has suspended operations of its factories in the state of Selangor due to enhanced lockdown in Malaysia and will not be operating temporarily.

The association had been "inundated with expression of concerns from global buyers, including queries from embassies, hospitals and healthcare sectors. " Supramaniam Shanmugam, president of Malaysian’s Rubber Gloves Manufacturers Association (MARGMA), said in a statement on July 4,?"This has put a lot of pressure on rubber glove manufacturers, " he said.

At the same time, the United States is stepping up pressure on forced labor in Malaysia, particularly in the rubber glove manufacturing and palm oil industries.?For example, in May 2021, the US customs, CBP seized 4.68 million disposable gloves from Top Glove again for violating the "Forced Labor Law".

There are Chinese Glove manufacturers who said that if the production decline of Top Glove affected the global medical gloves supply, maybe some orders would be placed to Chinese manufacturers.?
