GKK Consultants Sdn Bhd (GKK), a leading Malaysian Human Resources and Training consultancy, commended LinkedIn’s recent inaugural survey on the top employers in Malaysia. The survey identified 15 companies, both Malaysian corporations and MNCs based in the country, which are offering job-seekers places within their organisations to grow their professional careers.
Amongst the Malaysian companies listed include Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Telekom Malaysian Bhd (TM), Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Axiata Group Bhd.
GKK’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gajendran Balasingham, commented that, “Despite the ongoing pandemic, surprisingly these companies are continuing to hire, with more than 45,000 job placements waiting to be filled in the country.
“LinkedIn’s methodology covered seven key areas, amongst them career progression, advancement and promotions, human resources skills, company stability and affinity, gender diversity and of course, educational background.
“Although this survey singled out top Malaysian corporations that have grown by leaps and bounds over the years, there are many positive traits and examples that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can follow and emulate within their own management systems.
‘No matter how small their workforce is, what shines through is the employers’ emphasis placed on employee growth, ongoing training and skills upgrade, with concern and tracking employees’ mental health and well-being, especially during these uncertain times of the pandemic,” singled out Mr Gajen.
Although many SMEs have had to close down due to financial difficulties, many have also braved uncertainties, changed business strategies and stayed afloat whilst still maintaining staff strength with the bravado that things will eventually improve, slowly and surely!
LinkedIn released the survey information late April 2021, with three GLCs making the top five. Also, Maybank made it to the top 10. Many of the other companies which made it to the top 15 were MNCs based in Malaysia.
Continued Mr Gajen, “Employees are the backbone of any company, small or big. Investing in employees’ ongoing training and upscaling their proficiency stands to benefit the companies’ strength, long-term sustainability and revenue profitability, too.
“This past one year, upward of 67,000 people have been retrenched – that too just from January to July 2020. They do not know what to do and where to go for help. More importantly, how to get back into the job market. My advice would be to use this valuable time to upgrade and reskill their job capabilities, pick up new job skills, especially in technological areas, through intensive training sessions.
“Together with SOCSO and HRDF, GKK has been conducting customized training courses to help these workers enhance and elevate their skills with the aim of maximizing their competitive advantage. With these new skills, they stand to be better equipped to be re-employed once again,
“During the current Covid-19 pandemic, we have conducted around 80 sessions especially in the IT Industry in the mission of enabling them with the current skills of their sector to improve employability. Thus far, more than 500 retrenchees have been retrained under this EIS scheme which is paid by SOCSO. Aside from that, we’ve also provided complimentary employability workshops that housed more than 2500 professionals in 2020. GKK provides academic qualifications for Diploma, Degree and also MBA courses together with professional certification with the aim of enabling these participants to excel in the fast-paced and ever-changing working environment,” concluded Mr Gajen.
