Malaysia Hydrogen Hub

A consortium, led by property developer LBS Bina Group, has announced plans to establish a 10-GW green hydrogen hub in Kota Marudu, Sabah, on a site spanning 15,000 to 30,000 acres. The initiative, supported by Invest Sabah Berhad, Sabah Forestry Development Authority (Safoda), and Midwest Green Sdn Bhd, aims to align with Malaysia's national and state sustainability goals. The project includes building an electrolyzer facility capable of producing 250,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually and potentially developing an industrial park within the site to promote industrial growth and clean energy use.

Unlocking the Power of Renewable Energy

Tan Sri Lim Hock San, Executive Chairman of LBS Group, highlighted Kota Marudu's renewable energy potential as a foundation for economic growth and job creation in Sabah. The project, under a memorandum of understanding (MOU), involves land surveys and site inspections to identify optimal locations for a green hydrogen production facility powered by solar and wind energy. The plan also includes establishing a renewable energy-powered industrial park. LBS stated that the MOU opens opportunities for future collaborations with local and international partners, positioning Sabah as a key player in the renewable energy sector.

Powering Sustainability: A Region of Solar Abundance and Strong Winds

The Kota Marudu region is ideal for a green energy hub due to its high solar irradiance, consistent wind speeds, and proximity to shipping ports, enabling efficient export logistics. LBS Group chairman Tan Sri Lim Hock San highlighted the project's alignment with Malaysia's green energy goals and commitment to sustainable development. Collaborating with partners like Invest Sabah, Safoda, and Midwest Green, LBS will conduct land surveys and site inspections to identify the best locations for the hub. The consortium will ensure alignment with local and international stakeholders to drive sustainable growth and innovation in the region.
