Malaysia Baru where are you?

Malaysia Baru where are you?

The euphoria was palpable on May 10. People were noticeably happy; relieved for sure. I even wrote the words: The future's so bright, I need my sunshades. And then... we waited. All effort seems to have gone towards recovering the stolen monies. And to plug the leaks where the former govt literally pawned us to kingdom come.

Meantime, our Ringgit is trading at a 4-year low; hovering around 4.2 to the US dollar. 1 trillion bucks in debt, there is no money for anything. One can only balk at those unconscionable rogues who ran our former govt (to the ground) as they went to town raiding every kitty and piggy bank imaginable. KWAP EPF Tabung Hj, LTAT, Felda, GLCs OMG

BN leaders are hopping across to Parti Bersatu; and I can't help but wonder how the same minds will fix stale issues. PH coalition I'm certain, is engaging PM TunM's lifeblood to hold it together; and the civil service... well, rot is the bandied-about word. All this while the leadership struggles to reinstate the autonomy of our check-and-balancing institutions -- the Central Bank, the judiciary, even the Army. No mean feat for any old guy leave alone a 93-year old.

What we want is a Malaysia that will hold up sans Mahathir, Anwar or any individual weak or strong. What we want is a system that is open, fair, and just that goes beyond race and religion but is based on integrity and the rule of law. Forget politics of patronage. Let's train resilience and maturity to talk out our differences without childish tantrums, cruel slurs, and most of all let's do away with the legacy of Rosmah's bomohs and black magic. Good God.

Yes it was the holy spirit that delivered us from evil. Now it's up to us - you and me --Regular citizens and patriots like us, to keep our home and country thriving. We will do this by getting involved, by taking responsibility, by asking the right questions. By staying alert and playing our part. We have rights. Let's learn about them and let's learn how to exercise them properly.

Certain quarters posit: Speak only positive things or else we will turn investors away. Nonsense. No more PR spin please. It's time to fess up and face up. No one in their right mind will condemn anyone facing their truth. As long as there's evidence of activity behind that that shows every effort being made to make good our backyard.

Enough with the apathy, indifference, and powerlessness. Malaysia Baru is MY Malaysia.

Such positivity and with so much hope for our Malaysia Baru. Let's us all develop and practise an open system of governance for all to ensure a more accountable government and a more responsible society after all it is a Government by the people and for the people. So as MALAYSIAN, we do have to play a more active role in creating a better tomorrow for all us, not just talk do act
