Malabar Resources award PIMS Mining 3 Year Contract to Operate the Maxwell Underground Bord and Pillar Operation

PIMS Group subsidiary PIMS Mining is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a three year contract to provide a whole of mine service for the Whynot Seam Bord & Pillar Operation at the Maxwell Underground Mine (owned by Malabar Resources).

The scope of the mining services agreement includes underground mining operations , employing the Place Change mining method on advance and Pillar Extraction on retreat, targeting Run of Mine Production rates up to 1.0 million tonnes per annum. Construction of the portal entry is nearing completion with PIMS Mining mobilising the first intake of employees to deliver first coal from the mine entry underground roadways through March 2023. The scope of mining services requires 130 direct jobs with around with around 100 of those being full time mine operator and trades job opportunities. PIMS Mining are pleased to support Malabar Resources and the Maxwell team in delivering local employment opportunities and economic activity to the Upper Hunter Region.

PIMS Group Managing Director Richard Mills said “PIMS Mining is proud to be one of very few mining service providers who have the in house technical expertise to deliver safe, high productivity Place Change and Pillar Extraction Mining. What is unique to the services we will deliver at Maxwell is the planned recovery of coal via Pillar Extraction Mining, which we fundamentally believe can be undertaken safely and with high levels of productivity. We believe these mining methods will become more widely adopted due to their lower capital requirements and their adaptability to reserves not amenable to longwall mining. We are excited to share our knowledge and experience in these mining methods with the PIMS team we are forming at Maxwell and are pleased to be given the opportunity to bring employment opportunities to the Upper Hunter and support our valued partner Malabar Resources.”
