A simple fact is poor quality or contaminated oil causes greater wear , less cooling and protection of the loaded parts.
Fuel dilution by the nature of lowering the oils viscosity is dangerous and needs urgent attention ,not just an oil change or top up but finding and repairing the source.
Maktec has investigated many oil related failures and by following these simple steps you can quickly identify the root cause on larger engines.
- Remove the rocker covers and inspect the injection equipment as any loss from the system will enter the crankcase.
- Open up the cam boxes and check the cam rollers for marking and odour indicating leakage from above.
- Check for blocked air vents or drains allowing back filling.
- Open up the fuel cam followers if possible and during running check the underside of the injection pumps.
- Any leakage seen from the pump lower part could be a drilling plug insecure or the fuel pump element worn /scored etc.
- Take regular oil samples and trend information.
