Making your brand relevant to the Social Media Discussion

Social Media is a discussion, not Pontification.

We often treat it as a bunch of people, waiting for us to tell them what we have prepared like it some kind of church. This "Street preacher approach" is what many companies, unfortunately, use with their content creation and posting.

Social Media, particularly Facebook, should be approached as a group of friends at a bar or party, chatting about their lives, workplaces, relationships, & the latest news. You join the gang and then strategize on changing conversations to your brand (Trend-jerking) or influencing your followers to create conversations about you on a daily.

Brands that talk about their products without bothering to listen to what "the mood in the room" is, risk pulling a "Kanye West-Taylor Swift" snafu, by interrupting an enjoyable moment with "Stale kaboozi".

The ultimate goal is to become the cool guy or hot chic at the bar that everyone wants to talk to. Whatever they say or do, will be the discussion of the day.

This can be a result of consistently churning out quality Audio-Visual content or a beginning a very juicy topic of discussion, relevant to your following. And let's face it, your brand or product may be interesting to you, but that doesn't make it a conversation stopper. A great creative expression through a nice banner or video, however, might just be the makeup your "pig" needs.

"your brand or product may be interesting to you, but that doesn't make it a conversation stopper" Naice one John. I've found gold in the Click economy. I often wonder why we can't have a normal conversation on Social media. The noise made by the clash of egos on these platforms is so repelling to my psyche. But it's humbling to find your content here. Cheers mate!
