Making the World a Better Place

Young entrepreneurs are making the world a better place. I am constantly reminded of this fact through my work* with Junior Achievement Worldwide (JA Worldwide). JA Worldwide brings leaders, volunteers and supporters from around the world together to inspire, develop and invest in entrepreneurial education for young people around the globe.

The entrepreneurial skills students learn help them succeed in a world that seems to be changing at a more rapid pace than ever before. With the help of a global network of more than 300,000 volunteers and 3,000 staff members JA Worldwide engages young people in over 100 countries to learn key principles of entrepreneurship and apply them in the real world to solve problems - big and small.

And precisely one such big problem was solved by three young entrepreneurs from Denmark - Nicklas Stokholm, Christian Rum and Kevin Albin – who participated in the JA Company Program and were winners of the De La Vega Global Entrepreneurship Award (awarded the to best start up company in the JA Worldwide network).

These great young entrepreneurs, creators of the Bubbles company, showed us it is possible to break down barriers and develop an innovative product that adapts to the special needs of students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The platform they developed eliminates audio distractions, creating a direct line of communication between teachers and students, improving the stimulation that traditional classrooms offer to young people with ADHD thereby improving their academic performance The result? More than 40 systems have been adopted by schools in Denmark. Click on the link to see their inspiring pitch video.

Young entrepreneurs are found everywhere and we must create the opportunity for them to experiment with new, creative and innovative solutions to our most difficult problems. In my experience, when a talented group of people are guided by an inspired vision and work together to develop innovative solutions, amazing things happen (in some cases achieving things they thought would be impossible).

The difficult challenges that we face around the planet require diverse solutions that incorporate different perspectives and realities. I congratulate JA Worldwide and its network for promoting ideas of entrepreneurship, for having a vision of a better future, and a commitment to help young people achieve their full potential.

The future belongs to great young entrepreneurs like the Bubbles team. Let’s continue to inspire them, support them, and encourage them to make the world a better place.

 * I am the former chairman of JA Worldwide and currently serve on its board.

There are a lot of pretty conflicting messages out there about what makes a good entrepreneur. If you were to ask a dozen people to define the word "entrepreneur" you'd probably get a dozen different answers. Some would say it's someone who starts their own business. Others would say an entrepreneur is someone who sees an opportunity in an industry that others aren't paying attention to. Some might even say it's about spotting a need and filling it. But the bottom line is that entrepreneurs make the world a better place by solving problems and providing opportunities that didn't exist before. Ralph de la Vega insightful share
