Making the World Better by Helping Men Mature

When Paul Louis Cole was my guest on The Crossman Conversation , he blew me away with his answer to my first question—and did it again and again as we talked.
I asked him to tell me about his ministry, Christian Men’s Network . He said, “We’re a human justice mission focused on defeating fatherlessness and ending child abuse. We do that by mentoring and discipling men.”
Then he said:
“When you touch the heart of a man, you’ve touched the soul of a nation. And when we change the hearts of fathers, we change the future for the children. And when you change the next generation, you change the world.”
All I could say was: Wow!
So what we have to do, he said, is to train the next generation to not be childish. We have to help them mature, to care about the results of their actions and to accept responsibility.
“All behavior follows belief,” he said. “Identity is the story you tell yourself about yourself. That definition controls not only your desires and self-control, but it controls your decision-making. What a man does with his hands is the story he’s told himself in his heart. Your hands will always do what’s in your heart.”
In societies around the world, we’re not filling men’s hearts with the right stories so they can develop a strong, positive identity.
“A problem in our culture today is we’ve become more concerned with the calorie content of our children’s lunches than with the character content of our children’s hearts,” Dr. Cole said.

Children need fathers. “Fatherlessness is the leading indicator of poverty in every culture of the world,” Dr. Cole said. “A father provides identity, affirmation, love, respect, and self-worth. When you don’t have that, you start life without this moral center.”
But we have to do more than just raise good kids. Dr. Cole said:
“The role of a father is not to raise up a great son, but to raise up a good father.”
You’ll want to hear what Paul Louis Cole had to say about love versus lust, good versus evil, forgiveness and repentance. He talked about the Human Genome Project. He explained the difference between teachers and fathers. And he talked about the battle for the hearts of men. Listen to our entire conversation here:
