Making video easy for Google's CallJoy

Enter: CallJoy
CallJoy is an A.I. powered phone answering software that helps their small business clients free up valuable time by eliminating distracting phone calls while still providing service and information to the customer calling in. Before meeting IndieWhip, the CallJoy team spent months building their technology within Google’s Area120 Incubator. In just weeks, they would reach the make or break moment— their public launch.
When CallJoy approached IndieWhip to create videos for their upcoming launch, we identified two challenges that needed to be addressed in order to make hitting their objectives less stressful.
- They had an unmovable deadline-- and needed to create videos efficiently so they could remain focused on their launch.
- Without any in-house creative or video support, they needed complete production from IndieWhip to make these videos as effective as possible.
Making it easier for CallJoy:
IndieWhip’s responsibility is to set the project up for success with a Discovery Conversation, where you share your objectives and IndieWhip listens so we can create a plan that works for your project.
Here, CallJoy and IndieWhip determined that two separate videos, to speak directly to the company’s most promising verticals were ideal-- Restaurants and Retail. Separating these verticals made it easier to strategically provide the correct context and call-to-action for the intended audiences.
IndieWhip provided a realistic scope of the videos that could be created in the limited time available with the budget at hand. This transparency aligned expectations and mapped out a predictable outcome.
In Development, CallJoy was concerned that their product’s value could get lost in the full list of features. While CallJoy relied on our scripting process, IndieWhip relied on CallJoy’s data-based understanding of their clients. The resulting scripts showcased the most helpful features within relevant contexts, keeping the waters from getting muddy.
Optimizing the Plan for CallJoy:
IndieWhip’s objective is to provide you with a Production Plan that gets you to the finish line while remaining flexible and embracing any challenges along the way.
With launch rapidly approaching, CallJoy needed IndieWhip to maximize their resources. In this instance, our Production Plan allowed for time to be gained with strategic execution by:
- Immediately starting Post-Production on-location during the 1st shoot day.
- Securing close-proximity locations for two back-to-back shooting days with the same crew.
As a result of the stacked shooting plan, IndieWhip was able to minimize the required crew and prep day costs, all while achieving greater creative and visual consistency.
With this plan, CallJoy could view an early cut of the 1st video before we finished shooting the 2nd. Further, real-time approvals and contextual input on-set gave our post team the ability to kick the timeline into high gear. The video was now ahead of the aggressive Post-Production schedule.
Providing additional value for CallJoy:
Maximizing what your video budget gets you is always a top priority for IndieWhip, it’s also our job as video professionals to actually achieve it.
Identifying early on that starting Post-Production on-site would likely result in additional flexibility, IndieWhip was able to plan and execute the additional capture of several 6-second bumper ads during production and would deliver this content if time allowed.
By embracing actionable feedback throughout the Post-Production phase, CallJoy was able to quickly accomplish the feedback loop on the primary videos. As a result, this allowed IndieWhip to give CallJoy the confidence that everything would be delivered ahead of their “Go Live!” moment.
The IndieWhip team was able to use the additional time to provide finished versions of extra content, a series of the 6-second bumpers as well as additional cuts of the main video with alternate ‘Calls to Action’. As a result, CallJoy could A/B test their videos and strategies as part of their launch along with testing YouTube bumper ads.

The CTA is where you’ll be able to run data-driven experiments that actually make a difference. Additional CTA variants are a cost-effective way to extend the value of your video and are easily incorporated into your production plan.
