Making video easy for Bose

Enter: Bose & BoseBuild

Bose is a world-renowned acoustics and electronics company, and BoseBuild is their new educational product line. Before meeting IndieWhip, the BoseBuild team had spent over 2 years developing a product that fuses interactive learning experiences with Bose-quality-- now, they were ready to launch.

When the Bose team approached us to create videos to support the marketing of the BoseBuild Speaker Cube, we identified two main challenges that needed to be addressed in order to make the launch video successful.

  1. The engineers behind the BoseBuild products had the added responsibility of the overall marketing plan, which included retail roll-out and events-- they needed to be involved while maintaining momentum and focus on the release.
  2. They needed focused videos that spoke to parents about an educational product yet that would delight their kids. Additionally, they needed in-app videos that would teach kids about complex acoustic science in a way that is accessible.

Making it easier for Bose:

Our Discovery Conversation is designed to ensure every project stakeholder has an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the project while maintaining a firm grip on the objectives at hand so an efficient plan can be created.

This Production Plan accounted for the BoseBuild team’s other responsibilities, and made it easy for them to stay involved when needed, and focus on the launch when not. IndieWhip adjusted the Production Plan to allow for more time between project milestones and full team inclusion on-set. As a result, this created a flexible workflow that allowed Bose to be fully involved without taking precious time away from the internal tasks the team needed to accomplish for a successful release.

On the creative side, by developing the two types of video separately, IndieWhip made it simple for BoseBuild to focus on one framework at a time. With many marketing teams being a mix of individuals from different disciplines, it’s IndieWhip’s responsibility to ensure that the Development phase will result in targeted and executable concepts.

Optimizing the Plan for Bose:

IndieWhip’s objective is to provide a Production Plan that gets you to the finish line while remaining flexible in order to embrace challenges alongside your team.

BoseBuild needed IndieWhip to compartmentalize the process to keep things organized. In this instance, our plan allowed BoseBuild to effectively participate by:

  1. Incorporating a structured Development window on each video separately, once complete the Pre-Production could accelerate simultaneously across all the videos.
  2. Integrating the BoseBuild team into the Pre-Production and Production Process to benefit from their hands-on expertise with the product.
  3. Adding flexibility in Post-Production to test the effectiveness of the kid-focused educational graphics.

As a result of this plan, BoseBuild no longer risked mixing creative direction across the different video types, which resulted in scripts that resonated effectively for each purpose.

Now, the BoseBuild team could confidently contribute to the details of their videos, all while keeping timeline and budget under control. Further, their team felt confident that the messaging was authentic to Bose’s standard of excellence.

Providing additional value for Bose:

Maximizing what your video budget gets you is always a top priority for IndieWhip, it’s also our job as video professionals to actually achieve it.

Our plan enabled Bose to have ample time to test and review concepts in advance, which allowed them to make the right decisions with as little pressure as possible from a timing and budget perspective.

In the Post Production phase, staggering multiple editors proved to be a cost-effective way to enable BoseBuild to accomplish the needed feedback loop with the speed their rollout required. BoseBuild’s participation on-set further streamlined the post workflow by having required less ‘takes’ of proprietary components in the filming. This time-saver allowed Bose to have some flexibility to ensure the visual experience of the educational graphics was engaging for the kids that would be their end-users.

Bose now had a full understanding of how an effective process conserved their budget and saved the time needed to maintain other priorities. Well versed in the IndieWhip process, we partnered up again to execute the video for the BoseBuild Headphones.

IndieWhip Pro Tip!

Spending more time in Development and Pre-Production on video projects is not counterproductive for aggressive timelines. In fact, added time spent in those phases pays dividends during Post-Production.

Thanks to Bose's dedication and participation in the IndieWhip Video process, the explainer videos for both product lines and the two educational videos were delivered ahead of schedule. Bose was able to launch and begin servicing their new audiences, as planned.
