Making Time to Vote

This is a note I shared with the KIND team today, encouraging everyone to vote in our upcoming Presidential Election.

KIND Team,

Today, on National Voter Registration Day, the KIND Leadership team wants to encourage everyone to make the time to vote in our upcoming Presidential Election. While we realize many team members will vote early or by mail this year, we want to ensure that your work obligations do not stand in the way of your ability to exercise this important freedom. On Election Day – Tuesday, November 3 – no meetings or calls should be held between 9am - 12pm ET.

Democracy requires our active participation. We are encouraging you to vote because this is one of your most powerful rights as a US citizen. This is not about politics or whom you choose to vote for. Everyone has a home here at KIND. At a time when our country is so polarized, it’s more important than ever that we respect one another and help every single team member feel included. I know it’s no secret which candidate I’m endorsing, which is also why I want to emphasize that KIND is a home for all of our team members, regardless of which Presidential candidate you support. 

Particularly given how divided our country has become, we need to ensure that we model a culture that values nuanced conversations, introspection, critical thinking, and the ability to disagree while respecting one another. The marketplace of ideas is what fuels innovation and, most importantly, is at the heart of democracy.

This year, we are partnering again with Time to Vote, a nonpartisan initiative aimed at increasing voter turnout. Below are some of their resources to support you in creating a voting plan:

• Check that you are registered to vote
• Easily request a mail-in ballot by entering your address here
• Find details about your state’s mail-in/early voting deadlines here
• If you plan to vote in-person, know your polling place
